I cant shake the Astros either. However, it must be mentioned everytime we fans compare this situation to the 36-10 run in 2004, the 2004 team had a lineup of Bagwell, beltran, berkman, kent and to a lesser extent ensberg and Biggio. The offense was there. This year's team is not close. However, because the NL sucks, the Astros will be in this thing till the end eventhough they have given us no reason to believe that they can turn it around. Everytime they have strung some wins together, they promptly go lose three or four in a row.

yeah, but the '04 team didn't have andy pettitte, and berkman's having a better year offensively than any of those guys did in '04.

everyone acts like this has been some massive, team-wide collapse... do you realize lidge and qualls have, together, blown 7 saves? seven games we were positioned to win. give us just... 4 of those plus the arizona game we blew for clemens a few weeks ago and the team is 63-58, a game up in the WC standings.

it's not THAT dire. if scott and huff can stay hot, the team has all the offense it needs; if wheeler, qualls and nieve can stablize the back of the pen, this team is going to win some games and they have 6 left with the reds.

yeah, the cub series was discouraging; unfortunantely, berkman went parka; it cost us. but this isn't a bad team. AND THEY ARE NOT OUT OF IT!

I dont think I ever said they were out of it. I however do remember that the 04 team was great and was always capable of playing great. I will always root for the my stros, but I just have not seen anything this year that will make think they are capable of putting it all together for an extended period of time. I do think the Astros can make the playoffs and go deep. I just dont have the conviction I had for the 04 and 05 teams.

I'm not giving up until it's all said and done...but I must say, after they started their current slide, I've pretty felt that this team doesn't seem to have it this year. They can't catch a single break, have too many weaknesses and haven't developed any kind of consistency or tight-knit chemsitry you saw last year.

And you know..it'd just be nice to kinda retool and put together a more balanced team...it'd sure be nice to have some offense again. It'd sure be nice to actually feel like you have a chance heading into extra innings; feel confident heading into the later stages of the game trailing...and hell to be on top of the division again instead of fighting for a WC. Ah well...I'm gonna try and just enjoy the rest of the season while it lasts.

Stick a fork in these guys. They are done.

I would really like to see some young guys from the minors up here and playing. It has to be more fun, (less frustrating) than watching this clubs offensive inability.

Given the completely boneheaded way this management has handled things this season I have no confidence that they have a clue how to right this ship.

Glad to see fans packing the juice box as I have been.

Praying that Purpura is a short term employee.

Thanks Bidge for helping to turn this franchise into winners. Now be a nice boy and sit in the seven or eight spot while you get your 3000 hits over the next two years and take your embarrassing OBP with you.

Thanks Drayton for likewise turning things around on your watch. Baseball is fun again all across south Texas thanks to you, Nolan and Roger.

Bring on the kids. A couple of years of watching guys work and play hard, dive for balls and bases and appreciate the gift they are trying to achieve is what we need in Houston right now. The last time we had that was when Bidge, Cammy and Bags were young. What a great time. Let's start over and have some fun.

See you all next spring in Kissimee.

    Swoly,

You can still root for your team but realize that THEY SUCK....so instead of watching live you do other things and DVR the games for later.

I think Quall's meltdown the night before ripped out what little heart was left.

The 18 inning game put the season on life support , the Qualls meltdown pulled the plug.
