GIVE UP?! GIVE UP?! the hell with that! sure, i'll curse and boo them all day for losing games they shouldn't but there's no freakin way this season's over. 5 games out of the WC and 6.5 out of the Division with 6 and 7 games left with the Reds and Cards, respectively. they've taken it to the wire the last two seasons so i'm expecting the same this year. if they make the playoffs after this horrible season, all the more sweeter. if not, well, we'll have plenty of money to throw around and the Texans are right around the corner.

It was a joke, man. Honestly forgot the ;).

And you're right, they're playing pretty horrible right now. They teased us by winning 8 out of 10 games (5 of them against playoff contenders), then layed a completely rotten egg the last 5 games of the homestand. I'm not giving up yet, but I'm pretty close.

C'mon man. I can think of 12 million-plus reasons why this hasn't been a waste of his time.

I got flamed for saying it at the beginning of the season, but everyone should have seen this coming into this year. This was just a bad offensive team to start the season, and I just wondered why Pupura could not have done something to get another bat in here. This sucks because you wait for the team to turn it around and just when it seems they will they do something like get swept by the cubs.

Time for pupura to get some major offense next year. Assmus, everett, lane, ensberg, All have to be traded or released.

I don't really understand why Scott isn't batting higher in the order. He's been left on base more than anyone I've ever seen because of the guys who bat behind him. If a guy has a .481 OBP, let him back second! With he and Willy both being hot currently, you let Willy get on, maybe steal a base, utilize Scott's .656 SLG, and let berkman try to drive him home. Scott has a .346 RISP and Berkman has got a .402. I don't think this is rocket science, gar!

I just read on another site that A. Soriano was put on waivers last night. The 'Stros had better put a claim on him and work towards a serious trade with Washington is they're really interested.

it's not a bad idea, steve the pirate. i think a better line-up might be:

    taveras
    burke
    scott
    berkman
    huff
    biggio
    everett
    ausmus

burke's 4th on the team in OBP; i'd rather him hit near the top, let biggio, who still shows good power, be in a spot to maybe drive in some runs.

You're right. I think Garner is playing the odds that Scott will come back down to earth at some point. Thing is...he hasn't. You have to take advantage of it just as you did with Lamb earlier in the season.

    I don't know, guys.

Was it Olney on ESPN last night that said the Astros may claim Soriano off waivers and try to structure a trade? It's quite a long outside shot I'm sure, but we'd be far from dead with a turn of events like this.

No one is denying that your a fan....he/she is just calling you a bangwagon fan because you are acting like one. You wanna watch when we are at .500 and therefore being possibly 1-2 games back right? We lose 5 in a row.....your off....we win our next 8 out of 10 and then your on again. If it smells like a bangwagoner....then it probably is one

I wonder what the nats would expect in return for soriano if the astros do claim him. The astros shouldn't give up any of the players on their roster now since it would be a rental(unless its jason lane). One of the rumored reasons for the astros keeping lane instead of wilson is because they thought they could package lane in a deal later, so if they can get rid of him somehow in addition to another 1/2 decent prospects for soriano i'd be in favor for it.
I mean I know lane isnt worth much right now, but a change of scenery might help his mental state, and its not like the nats are in position of strength because soriano will most likely leave at the end of the year.

    They shouldn't give up.

    1. B/C theyre still in it.

    2. If they get in they can do some damage. Theres not 1 team thats going to be i the playoffs that seems unbeatable. With Roy, Roger, Andy, etc...I still think their chances are as good as anybodys if they sneak in the playoffs therefore they cant throw in the towel. Heck everybody in the wildcard race shouldnt give up with the way the NL is.

Teams that should give up would be like Texas. A team that even if they sneak in is likely 3 and out.

Looking over this thread, I can really admire the diehards who won't give up and show some of that fire. I just wish that you guys were on the team and maybe the Astros would be somewhere.

The only problem I have with the team is that they lack that killer instinct, that competitve fire, hell at least a sense of urgency. They just look like a bunch of guys out there going through the motions and collecting paychecks.

While I'm not completely ready to give up on the season, I'm not expecting some September magic. Bring up Pence and lets see what he can do at the major league level, as far as I'm concerned let Lane go and bring up someone who can hit (Pence).

I'm not sure if MadMax was joking, but I agree with you paki. The Nats could very well be willing to deal if a couple 2nd tier prospects are offered with Lane. I'd have to still offer Adam and Lights On if necessary. It really depends on their outlook for negotiations with Fonso after the season. If they really wind up letting him go, you figure they've gotta go for something even if it's less than stellar.

And I'm not so sure Soriano has to be a rental. If we surround him by adding good talent, develop an attractive team environment for him (more quality latin talent), and offer a fat contract, we have a really good shot at keeping him.

    . . . So yeah, I guess he'd have to be a rental. :p

Reds lost today... pick up a win and pick up a game. I wonder what Ben Sheets will do to our line-up today. I think I'll gag if I see a bunch of non-hitting right-handers on the field today (unless your names are Everett or Ausmus, in which case yout get a pass).

    Taveras - CF
    Biggio - 2B
    Berkman - RF
    Scott - LF
    Huff - 3B
    Lamb - 1B
    Everett - SS
    Ausmus - C
