Those aren't character red flags... Probably questions his motor if anything. But that's why you see most great defenses in the NFL have depth and a good rotation so players don't have to take plays off on the field.
The taking plays off, work ethic issues Thats bothersome to me. No denying the guy is a freak of nature, but how will he adjust to not being the most dominant player on the field especially with those problems at hand
Well Teddy should have had a better game in his bowl game (over a year ago) by your estimation _ which he didn't.
Bad motor is not a safe pick. I liken it to having a v10 ferrari which has a tendency to clunk out or stall way too often. For a long road trip and that high of a cost why would you want a car that's engine gives out every hundred miles...
He beat put it on a more talented florida team. Clowney plays with 2 other NFL quality lineman on the SC defense. The SC team is actually pretty stacked in terms of talent. Speed all over place and strong in the trenches
Personally I think the bad motor thing is being blown out of proportion. Also, it was mentioned that he might have taken plays off or toned it down due to not wanting to be injured before the draft.
We were comparing Teddy and Johnny because Johnny destroyed SEC teams and Teddy was a'ight against Florida. Two guys who played the same position. Now you're cross mixing.
I played ball a long time, thats not an appreciated mentality that you want or need on a team. If he was concerned about preserving his health he should have sat out this season, I would have respected him for that and commend him for making the wise decision. However once you make a commitment to a team and to a team goal. You better go balls to the walls for it...
The Texans have the opportunity to be that way if they added Clowney and he's the player that many (not you) think he can be...
Pretty sure the only decent SEC defense cough**LSU**cough shut Johnny down. The reason SEC defenses were even that highly regarded was because the offenses were so terrible. Once they encountered the high powered spread offenses, A&M, Missouri, Auburn. You see how bad they are. The only real good defenses these last 2-3 years have been LSU and Florida
You mean the same way these colleges commit themselves to making sure there athletes get an education and taking care of lingering injuries that they acquire playing for them...???
My opinion is a little out of the mainstream, so if you feel compelled to flame me, fire away. However, I would like to see the Texans trade with Cleveland for the #1 and first pick in the third or fourth round for their #4 and #26. If we did, we could take Jake Matthews of Texas A&M or Khalil Mack of Buffalo at #4 and either Ryan Shazier of Ohio State or Mike Evans of Texas A&M -- or the highest ranked QB who slips, perhaps even Zack Mettenberger of LSU. Matthews IMO would do as much to solve our quarterback problem as drafting a new QB. He would give us a future Pro Bowl starter and greater depth on the OL. Mack would be an improvement to our often injured linebacking corps. Obviously, if we chose Mack, then Shazier wouldn't be needed. However, giving our QB (whomever that turns out to be) a weapon like Evans would, like the Matthews choice, vastly improve QB performance. Anyway, perhaps that might be something to think about.
I don't expect these kids to go balls to the wall for these colleges when the colleges don't go balls to the wall for them. So Clowney taking the year off (which he still had a good year) is no problem for me. The question is what the Texans will think about it...
Hey when you a attend college as an athlete you know what is going on He knows whats expected No excuses
Can't wait for his contract year! There are thousands of other NCAA players who have been drafted who did not take plays off or toned it down in college because they didn't want to be injured before the draft.
