Actually Clowney does have pass rush moves from what I've seen. It's Barr who scares me... I don't think he does (or at least not strong ones). I would rather have Mack over him. Mack could end up being better than both.
Huh? Barr has power, speed, and a deadly spin move. Clowney only uses power & speed. Also mixes in a swim. I do like Mack. Although i think he will end up as a pass rushing ILB. kind of like cushing.
I don't know about Mack, but you are right about Barr, he is a pure speed rusher who can't shed a block to save his life. Barr is the very definition of "raw player". Clowney has some pretty polished pass rush moves and anyone who knows what they are talking about would see that.
Clowney will have a career similar to Mario Williams.. Which is not worthy of 1.1 If Texans want to draft Clowney, they should trade down to get extra draft picks.
You keep saying things like this and I don't think you realize just how foolish it makes you look. If Clowney is as good as Mario then O lines would absolutely panic every time Watt and Clowney come to town. If you were to trade down, you'd have to stay in the top 3 picks to have any chance of landing Clowney. Pair Clowney and Watt and they'll combine for 30 sacks a year which is nearly as much as some entire teams.
i question how much texans football you watched when mario was around... no one "feared" mario.. in fact, he was held down by lower tier tackles quite often. i'm surprised you didn't bring up mario's contract like you often do.. lol texans should trade down if they want clowney. he is not worth 1.1 his impact will be good, but not great.
Fair enough, I watched literally every game, but feel free to question whatever you like. HA! He did have his up games and his down games but saying "no one feared" Mario is hilarious, he was considered one of the premier pass rushers in the league after his second season in the league.....and that's essentially by himself on D. Pair him with a player the caliber of Watt during that time and it would have been a hell of a lot easier for him. I'm surprised you seemingly don't realize why I bring it up... They'd have to stay in the top 3 to have any chance at all, Clowney is by far the prize jewel of this draft class. I could see you saying this if there was some kind of awesome "once in a generation" QB prospect, or even WR prospect, but there's no one like that at all. Clowney is arguably the ONLY person worth 1.1 I wouldn't even agree with this if he was drafted to a defense without any pass rushing talent at all. If drafted to a team with JJ Watt, he'll have an amazing impact, either by causing teams to let up on JJ meaning he breaks the sack record or by getting the pressure/sacks himself because teams are preoccupied with Watt.
Barr has only been playing that position for like a year right...??? When those big NFL tackles with their long arms put their paws on him he may be rendered useless without refined pass rushing movers. I'm not saying he can't be good but he seems to be much more of a project than any of the others. No way I would want to risk a high pick on him. Mack is a beast. But he may have the mental make up that he could move inside as you suggest but I wouldn't draft him for that.
Personally, if they don't draft Clowney. I wouldn't want either Barr or Mack in the top 10. I would only take Clowney because of his POTENTIAL and physical make up and because we did see him dominate. If they traded down I would go with Justin Gilbert. That would give us a top notch corner and a top notch return man. Two birds one stone.
Agreed. IMO the only person in this entire draft worth the first overall pick would be Clowney but I'd live with it if O'Brien thinks he sees something in Bridgewater. No one else would be acceptable at all.
I think Sammy Watkins would be worth the #1 pick... If Boyd is that bad than Sammy is better than what I already thought he was. Sammy may be even a safer pick than Clowney, IMO...
If you are Cleveland. Would you take Watkins with your 5th and Bortles with your other 1st. Wouldn't matter who the qb was with Gordon and Watkins running routes.
That would be a nightmare. Especially if they would go out and get Josh McCown to throw them the ball. But I don't think Sammy will last to the 4th pick.
I really doubt he lasts to their second pick. Minnesota is so desperate for a QB that I doubt they pass on him. If they do, someone like KC with an older stopgap QB will grab him to be understudy.
Justin Gilbert is no sure thing. If Texans passed on QB and Clowney.. Obviously they need to trade down. In that scenario take Jace Amaro & then the BPA.
No argument there with Justin but he would probably be the best player on the board. And we need secondary help. I like Amaro. But I wouldn't spend a 1st round pick on him when guys like Jenkins and Fiedorowicz can be had in the 2nd or 3rd round. But you never know.
BTW, if the Texans do trade back, I bet you could get one of the best hauls by trading with Minnesota. Their QB hole is such a festering wound that they gave $3 mil to Josh Freeman. If the FO doesn't do something bold pretty soon to get a QB, the fan base will revolt and people with large salaries will lose their heads en masse.
It would go like this: Minnesota gets 1.1 Texans get: Minnesota 1.8 Minnesota 2.8 Minnesota 2015 1st round pick Minnesota 2016 1st round pick I might be OK with this. Unfortunately your statement about the QB situation in Minnesota could not ring more true than what we are experiencing in Houston.
I looove the TE class in this draft. Amaro and Ebron being way above the rest. If we trade back, we better land one of them. I would love a 2TE set of Amaro/Ebron + Griffin
