1) work ethic in his conditioning 2) inconsistent motor 3) already has an entourage 4) immaturity - 2 speeding tickets How do you like those apples?
1. I've seen JJ Watt have his hands on his hips during long drives, does that mean he has bad conditioning? If you are 6'6 250, you are going to get winded occasionally. This is such an overblown issue. 2. Simply not accurate if you actually watched him play. 3. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. 4. That's just stupid.
I don't think you understand what red flags are. And I did not come up with these. They are well published.. I forgot one: 5) Concerns about his family
Damn... I might be the most immature person on this message board then... Is there a study that links immaturity to speeding tickets?
it's rich that you shrug off these major concerns like they are nothing... And then hammer Bridgewater for his SOS and alleged small hands.
LOL what major concerns? False allegations of "poor work ethic" and "inconsistent motor" and talk about speeding tickets? That's what you consider "major"? I consider questions about a player's physical makeup a lot more major than harping about how a player grew up with his father in jail.
Oh no! He drove really fast on the freeway in the middle of nowhere!!!! THROW HIM IN PRISON!!! Honestly, who hasn't driven 110 at one point in their lives?
Looks like you haven't done your homework on Clowney... I guess Steve Spurrier calling out clowney for a lack of conditioning is "false"...
He likes losing and being at 2-14 I don't Get Bridgewater in here and we are at worst a 10-6 team Would bet 5/3 odds that we go 12-4
Well of course, as we all know Bridgewater is the greatest QB of all time, he'll throw for at least 7000 yards with at least 80 TD passes and 0 interceptions, he'll also run for 2500 yards and 43 TDs without ever fumbling the ball. As an added bonus, Bridgewater will split time between OLB and CB on the defensive side of the ball and record 27 sacks and 35 interceptions. Personally, I can't see how we'd go any less than 15-1 if we pick Teddy Bridgewater, who will become the only player inducted into the HOF before week 5 of his rookie year. Okay now that both of us are done being ridiculous, let's return to reality.
I'm not worried about Clowney's father being in jail like Adrian Peterson's father was or his speeding tickets. He can't control his father and people speed. My only concern about Clowney is you never know how these DEs will react when you stand them up when they have been playing with their hands in the dirt their entire lives. It may take them some time to adapt to a 3-4... Like Merciless for example. Clowney could end up being strictly a pass rusher this year (if the Texans draft him) and in nickel and dime situations only... Which could still be alot of time on the field depending which team they are playing.
We should be worried about his injuries combined with his propensity to make himself a late scratch before a game. He had surgery in 2009 to remove bone spur that has made a re-appearance and needed surgery again. Bone spurs are a result of an underlying condition that suggests he'll play his entire career dealing with re-occurring bone spurs and possibly plantar fasciitis. Those types of foot injuries for a player relying on explosiveness are going to dog Clowney. Will he make himself a late scratch before a game against an NFL divisional opponent? On top of it, Clowney's late scratch was because of a rib muscle pull. When I think of Ben Tate gutting out the season with cracked ribs it makes Clowney's toughness come into question.
Well his bone spur issue is certainly more of a valid concern than a speeding ticket or his dad being in jail but they are a very common issue. Duane Brown had to have surgery to remove bone spurs before this season and he was doing just fine. However the "making himself a late scratch" BS is kind of ridiculous. That happened once, in college, his final year. Also if it has been the NFL he'd have been listed as a "game time decision" so him being scratched from the lineup wouldn't have been a surprise. College has different injury reporting protocols so things like players being sick or dealing with nagging injuries are often not known by the general public.
I also worry about Clowney's lack of pass rush moves. he relies on his speed & power combo too much, which NFL Tackles can handle. I think Barr has the greater upside as a pure pass rusher.
