The mock was a jock. Vitale didn't really do it. Everybody pretty much agrees that Vitale's skills as a analyzer of talent or a color guy are not that great. He pretty much jumps on the bandwagon of whatever freshman is suppossed to do good that year and whoever plays for the ACC. His broadcasting has been reduced to catchy phrases (which aren't so catchy anymore) and speaking real loud to hear his own voice. I think fans and people more involved in the business know this. The only way he can keep his job, really, is to have good contacts with the people in charge of power schools. He has to, essentially, kiss arse, to make up for the fact that he's annoying. So don't get mad because he has an opinion, just take it with a grain of salt.
Dickie V doesn't go over too well here in the Midwest. I'm sure he plays big on the East Coast, but here, as soon as we hear that grating voice on the broadcasts, it's time to find a simulcast, if available, on the radio. "WHO LUVS YA, BA-BEE?!" Not us.
This is such a lame argument and yet, we hear it all the time. Ming hasn't proved himself against the more physical NBA players, but apparently every college player has?! [itching to insert a here] This is almost as annoying as the argument that Ming won't be good, because he plays in a weak league, so we should trade down and pick [insert name of unproven high school player of your choice here].
Why trade a proven All-Star in Francis for a rookie in Williams. Francis has proven that he is able to take over a game when he wants to. I remember one game against Dallas when he was struggling. Then, in the 3rd quarter, he took over the game and we won. Also, remember the 27 first half points against Utah. I really don't think that Williams will be able to dominate like Francis does. So, Dick, I think you should stick to college players and don't worry about the NBA.
william's has the same amount of if's as ming but we need a center and we can get potentially the best one in years. trading francis for jay is STUPID.
Relax. There are at least 20 people on this board who know more about "Mr. Ming" than Dick Vitale does. You're better off reading their comments than Dickie V's. Same goes for Wilbon, that idiot from the Milwaukee paper, and most other sportswriters who have chimed in on this question. Just because they're getting paid to write doesn't mean they know more than you do. Take it from a journalist.
I think Dickie V views all college players as his boys. He needs them to be successful. College b-ball is his livelihood. And, he loves the ACC and Big East.
