Ukraine is going to lose land in this whole ordeal - doesn't mean it will be a "win" for Russia as what they get will likely not be worth the cost. Whatever the eventual outcome is - it is unlikely that Russia will be in a position to invade Ukraine again, as there will be some commitment internationally or even from the Ukrainians and Poland or another nation to severely beef up their borders.
