If America is willing to protect its investment, why not agree to that explicitly? I think Ukraine realizes the only cease fire worth a damn is one that has the backing of US/Europe in the form of a security agreement. Otherwise, they seem to be settling for a war of attrition like Russia/Afghan, US/Vietnam, etc etc,

The ambush was an indication how terribly Trump's "master negotiator" peace negotiations with Russia are going. So Trump tried to browbeat Zelensky in the hopes that he'd run away and cry and surrender his country to Putin's terms. But Zelensky isn't a 20 year old intern on The Apprentice so it didn't happen that way.

It was a sign of how completely the "master negotiator" is out of his depth in trying to negotiate with Putin who basically has always said "I get everything I want or no peace" and he's not coming off of that for anybody. I assume Trump tried his tough guy face like in his mug shot but surprisingly that didn't make Putin cave. Trump hung his reputation on ending the Ukraine war quickly, but it (and he) is a total failure and the war isn't going to end any time soon. It was all about screwing Ukraine so Trump could save face.

One more broken promise / lie on a growing mountain of the same for Trump. Put it right next the promise to reduce grocery prices, etc.

I don't think that is accurate
Signing over their rights means nothing
when Trump can "Negotiate" a better deal with Russian
Let Russia take over and have a 50/50 split
in concept/theory . .. but no one will ever know if it is true
because the Russians will keep the books and we will have to "Trust them"

Trump will brag about this great deal he made
and the public will every have proof either way

Agreed, I think Trump would agree with you too. Difference is Zelensky doesn't want to have to pay the US for the security. That's really what the spat in the oval office was all about. (Money)

A deal will get done when Zelensky starts paying back the US like he's doing Eurpoe and pays for security in the future. If Zelensky doesn't pay up, then I'm pretty sure we all know what the outcome will be. I would say that's pretty good negotiating. Pay up or else, now get out of my office and comeback when you're ready to do this deal that Zelensky's cabinet members had already agreed too.

why are you spouting BS? Ukraine is not repaying Europe anything atm.

The whole point Zelensky was making and why he was incensed by Vance is because Ukraine taking upon itself the brunt of staving off aggression by a totalitarian regime is in geopolitical interests of all democratic countries and wants some acknowledgment of that sacrifice instead of it being politicized by a bunch of geopolitical neophytes drunk on their newfound power.

If you are tired of western wor'd's human rights afforded to its citizens, maybe consider moving to Russia/China/Korea and all the rest of countries where no layman gets to enjoy a fair trial and freedom of speech. If Russia/China union takes over europe, asia, etc, we won't be able to compete economically. Not so "MAGA" at that point, now is it?

It only took 80 years, but the GOP finally capitulated and lost the Cold War with Russia.

You should all be very proud of yourselves. @raining threes, etc...

I know the point Zelensky was trying to make and yes, Ukraine said they were going to pay Europe back but not the US. Ukraine can pay us back eventually just like they're paying back Europe eventually and they dont have to spend a dime doing it. Just give up the minerals and be done with the killing. Do you think it's good policy to be the world's police force at the American taxpayers expense?

Seems to me that Zelenskyy thought he was doing Europe and America big favor by fighting the Russians (essentially he is but thats besides the point), thats why he was acting entitled and thought the money was free, but now he's realizing there isn't such a thing. The mineral deal would keep America there for at least a decade, but he doesn't want their grandkids to be paying this "loan" back.

And Trump was kinda right about Europeans getting their back money because they have 200B+ of frozen Russian assets, and will probably make Russia pay some sort of reparations to Ukraine after this is over with, so they'll get their money back through it. Its just that he talks like he wasn't born in New York but rather some hills in Tennessee, which is weird because if you listen to his interviews from 30-40 years ago, at least he was able to think before he spoke.

I think you may be out of your depth here. Perhaps stick to social issues like how you think gay people shouldn’t be able to marry or something.

This is the stupidest response that you clowns can put out. It shows us woke clowns are not living in the real world. There are no other possibilities. Let me clue you in on something, wars are profitable for many people and that’s why we have them. How many endless wars have we been involved in either directly or indirectly? Trump is the only one who truly wants or needs no wars. He’s just happened to be sheriff of the most powerful nation on earth, and he’s acting like the most powerful man and not like the doofus puppet with dementia you guys installed to scam us. He is the only one who can put an end to this war and not the 2 clowns Putin and Zelenskyy or any other possibilities you’re fantasizing about.

    Clueless lib!

I prefer that we spend smartly and effectively, minimizing waste and fraud - including favoritism and backdoor deals. I support a much lower defense budget; let’s go back to $300–500 billion instead of $1 trillion per year. We can pull back from regions of the world - Japan, Israel, etc. - from countries that are now rich enough to stand on their own.

I prefer that we invest more in R&D and critical infrastructure - physical transportation, medicine, energy, AI, etc. - for the future, including addressing the effects of climate change, which we are all already feeling through increased costs in the form of higher insurance rates, lower property appreciation, and constant multi-billion-dollar disaster recoveries.

I believe in smart and effective taxation (which is, of course, always tricky in terms of fairness) to pay for spending and reduce the debt - even if that means higher taxes for all - but only if we get the right return: a society that invests in the future, invests in people, and maintains a steady defense against potential dangers in the world.

I absolutely hate the endless social fights (MAGA, trans rights, LGBTQ issues, abortion, etc.); they divide us and accomplish nothing.

At the end of the day, I want a government that works - not bloated, not hollow, and definitely not an oligarchy.

Yeah, and the dumbass woke clowns in here are cheerleading for the midget comedian. They clearly hate America and Trump. We gave Ukraine everything that little midget asked for under braindead Biden and he’s always thumping his nose at us. Ukraine always voted against us in the UN. Trump is the new sheriff now so you woke clowns in here better get used the ways a real superpower leader supposed to act.

    Stupidest response ever. Zero self-reflection.

“Woke clowns.” Overused political buzzword. No originality, no thought.

“No other possibilities.” 100% certainty. Zero humility. No grasp of how complex the world is.

“Wars are profitable, that’s why we have them.” Sure, wars benefit some, but wars happen because people want things - land, power, influence - not just profit.

“Endless wars we’ve been involved in.” True. But killing an Iranian general nearly started one with Iran.

“Trump truly wants or needs no wars.” Maybe. No one reads minds. But if war benefits him in some way, who’s to say? Again, see Iranian general.

Sheriff of the most powerful nation on earth, acting like he's Superman. That’s some cultish behavior right there.

“Doofus puppet with dementia you guys installed.” Back to election conspiracy theories. Can’t think for yourself, just parroting what you were told.

“Only one can end this war.” Just like how there would be peace on Day 1, right?

Leftists pumped hot air into Zelenskyy and that’s why he’s going around acting like that. He’ll come crawling back and begging for mercy from Trump when his money, weapons and his conscripts are drying up in a few weeks.
