Russia has all types of problems, demographic included but they have "benefit" of no substantial internal political pressures/consideratiions. Whatever little benefits the Russia Federation currently provides its citizens, Putin would just slash sh** and the people would put up with it. The Russians are use to suffering/austerity/hardship.
