That point about New Orleans is why we risked nuclear war over Russia being in Cuba.

We risk a war over a complete hypothetical scenario?

Why dont we lift sanctions so Cuba is not enticed by Russia.

    Carry on, war mongers

Haven't heard lately from most of the folks who bought the US Gov propaganda that Ukraine is going from one glorious victory to another and Russia will soon collapse.

Incredible but like they did with Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan they will believe our next needless war the Us government and the NYT, WaPo and the rest of the foreign policy apparatus say is going great until it doesn't. About 5 years most Americans will then say that they never supported the war and new it was not going well. If it was a war unlike Ukraine where we have virtually no active troops, it will be practically only the small percentage who were vets will member what happened.

Remember how you said it was understandable that Russia invaded another country over a complete hypothetical scenario of Ukraine joining NATO?

Because when one party actually does it and your dream candidate and his party denounce it and use that to win votes, you pretend that both parties are the same. Your favorite Presidential candidate is the biggest of the warmongers.

Who was saying. Russia was soon going to collapse? Ukraine has been fighting a defensive war to keep
Russia from taking over Ukraine. In fact the US has been very careful about giving aid to Ukraine that could be used to strike deep
Into Russia. Many have criticized Biden over that.
    By your own description
ukraine and the Us involvement in Ukraine is nothing like Vietnam.

The more Russia loses and is humiliated, the more Putin is willing to use nukes to avoid Russians rioting on the streets. I guess that happens when folks in Moscow or St Petersburg think they're next up to get drafted (not happening anytime soon).

It's an impossible scenario for the US to get everything because nukes are always on the table.

So we bleed him dry to burn his hand and persuade him to do the right thing... meanwhile Putin is also playing the attrition game by banking on the fact that Americans lose interest quickly. It might work if the world starts another conflict elsewhere.

If Russia did use nukes in Ukraine, Biden did promise that the US would sink the entire Russian Black Sea navy ... but it looks like Ukraine has already done the majority of that work.

Right, which means a deterrent against Putin using nukes is less valuable. It's probably why Ukraine haven't totally blown up that bridge to Crimea. It makes Russia feel less cornered and desperate while feeling more vulnerable.

What's more unpredictable or "certain" is the chance of Ukraine winning unconditionally which threatens Putin with a domestic uprising.

At that point, he would care less about refraining from indisputable warcrimes like using nukes or flattening Ukrainian cities with the full might of its remaining conventional weaponry.

Not really so hypothetical. The US has spoken of expanding NATO to Ukraine since at least 2008. I won't do your research for you since it is easily found in mainstream sources.

The war was because the US for the most part insisted that Ukraine must join the military alliance NATO. Take the US at its word.

With regard to hypotheticals, many folks assume the hypothetical that Russia wants to expand to the pre Berlin USSR borders or in more hysterical cases to the English Channel. Therefore the according to you NATO must be expanded to Ukraine.
