Much like the anti-Vietnam protests were largely (not totally) fueled by the draft. Self-interest is a strong motivator.
I wouldn't be surprised if we find a way to strike Russians with nuclear weapons based in ukraine in retaliation and that type of threat can only be hinted at unofficially through military channels Edit: perhaps if they can strike their bases from Ukraine or unidentified subs and Russians don't heed to the pressure and leave Crimea, then the nuclear retaliatory strike from Ukraine will be in order. Also, I'm assuming that Russians use the unavoidable hypersonic delivery vehicle for their nuclear strike, where antimissile systems are powerless to stop it...
There's no need to retaliate with nuclear strikes against Russians in Ukraine - the US could obliterate their military assets with conventional weapons, with the bonus that you don't end up killing a bunch of civilians and creating a radiation mess in an area Ukraine hopes to get back.
One can only hope they will use their hypersonic missiles. [Newsweek] Russian Hypersonic Missile May Have Accidentally Struck Russia It may save us the trouble of having to respond with a counterstrike.
This may have already been talked about but the way that their flagman ship Moskva of the black see fleet was maintained and then got sunk, I wouldn't be surprised at any misguided self-mutilation fires that they can cause to themselves... Here is the video - quite enjoyable delivery too:
I thought getting a person to fight was the problem? If I am a protestor the I'm going into self preservation mode. I'm pretty sure the objective won't be carried out. I can suit up, I can carry a gun but when chaos happens no one is going to know where ArtV went. You didn't gain a soldier, you lost a uniform, gun and some ammo.
They are threatening to SHOOT deserters......at some point, the company needs to start taking out it's own leadership. DD
Right but when chaos starts it's hard to tell retreat or take cover from "run away". When your getting shelled, you just want it to stop. They won't be saying where is ArtV in the midst of a battle? Maybe after but by then I'll be far from the front. Just saying that your war protesters are not going to be more than filler - at best. But realistically, these people are probably just fleeing the country
