Here's a good breakdown on export/import, EU sanctions re: Kaliningrad and some more background about Ukraine a lot of people conveniently forget. I imagine any REAL settlement that's more than just a cease-fire is going to have to address not just Crimea, Donetsk, but also shipping in the Baltics. Especially if the status quo in Belarus changes anytime soon and when Ukraine joins the EU and NATO (despite what Mojoman seems to want).
That's ultimately up to Ukraine at this point. I don't know why you're so convinced Russia is operating on a superior moral ground here. There's also a chance Ukraine agrees to a cease-fire and tries to recapture it in a few years. And I've got a bridge to sell you in Crimea if you don't think arms companies in countries all around the world won't sell to Ukraine or that Ukraine isn't going to want to retake what they've lost. You remind me of a Russophile friend of man from college. You understand how Putin thinks and recognize Russia as an independent country...but then assume every other country in the region can/should/would just go along with Russian dominance. Although you also seem to think this is all some shadowy conspiracy led by a cabal...so I expect you're reading less of IR theory and more QAnon message boards.
Or diplomacy as it's called when not on a personal level and is for national interest and foreign policy.
They would've prefered the f-35s instead. Better camera quality to send back for when they roast PKK rebuhls.
Stalemate no bueno... www.telegraph.co.uk /business/2022/06/29/ftse-100-markets-live-news-inflation-prices-russia-gas/ Germany seizes three Gazprom tankers in new blow for Putin The German government has taken control of three liquefied natural gas ships from Russian energy giant Gazprom. US-listed Dynagas LNG Partners said Germany’s energy network regulator assumed control of three vessels “for an indefinite period of time” after Berlin took ownership of Gazprom Germania in April. Two Dynagas ships, the Amur River and the Ob River, were chartered to a Gazprom unit until 2028, while the vessel Clean Energy was chartered to the unit until 2026. All have now been taken over by Berlin. Germany seized control of Gazprom Germania, which controls the country’s largest gas storage facility, to secure its energy supplies amid the Ukraine conflict. It has since renamed the company Securing Energy for Europe. The takeover came after Gazprom said it no longer owned its subsidiary Gazprom Germania but refused to disclose the unit’s new ownership structure. 6:11PM Stellantis warns car industry will collapse if making electric vehicles doesn't get cheaper One of Europe’s biggest automakers has warned that the industry is doomed unless electric vehicles get less expensive. Stellantis is aiming to cut the cost of making electric vehicles 40pc by 2030, chief manufacturing officer Arnaud Deboeuf said today. The producer of Fiats and Peugeots plans to manufacture some parts in-house and also pressure suppliers to cut the price of their products. If EVs don’t get cheaper, “the market will collapse,” Deboeuf said at the company’s Tremery factory in France. “It’s a big challenge.” It comes as European Union countries this week endorsed a push to eliminate carbon emissions from new cars by 2035. With lawmakers in favour of giving up fossil fuels in the auto industry, it’s highly likely that most manufacturers will have to shift to producing EVs in little more than a decade. 5:51PM Government asks National Grid to prepare for risk of Russian gas cutoff The Government has asked National Grid to ensure Britain has enough gas to heat homes and keep the lights on this winter if Russia cuts shipments to Europe. The grid operator will draw a wide range of scenarios to prepare for possible supply disruptions when the heating season starts, the company told Bloomberg. While the UK has a long-standing emergency plan that gets stressed tested every year, it’s never been enacted. Europe is contending with the threat of a complete cut-off by Russia this winter as President Vladimir Putin steps up the use of gas as a weapon. Britain imports only about 4pc of its gas from Russia, but in cold winters the nation has at times needed to rely on Europe for about a quarter of the fuel it needs to keep warm, make electricity and power industries.
Ukraine is bleeding Russia out according to Kos. It's been a bad couple of weeks for the GOPutinists & Trump. But hey at least abortion is now illegal. . Congrats on your Ws. @Os Trigonum @tinman @basso @AroundTheWorld
Yes. We've heard several times in this thread that Ukraine doesn't have sovereignity or we should just allow Russia to take Ukraine's sovereignity.
People like this always amaze me. I have classmates (graduate students in International Policy) who have trouble understanding that Realism doesn't mean "everyone does what X country wants", but that every country and even sub-national actor has their own set of interests. Some of the policy ideas people float in class...my god. What's scary is that those are usually the ones who get big time jobs. Politicians and bureaucrats, like a lot of bad bosses, love their yes men.
