I agree. Would expect that if and when they meddle in US elections it would be against him. My complete guess is that Trump believes since he has complimented Xi many times that they have a "great relationship" and that means they will help him personally. (?)
just my guess consider this quid pro quo if china'd do Trump the favor of digging dirt on biden team trump'd be lax, in the trade talks, insofar as addressing China's theft of intellectual properties of US firms
I guess this takes the air of trump's "attack Biden" balloon... Republican senators echoed Biden in urging Ukrainian president to reform prosecutor general's office https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/10/03/...oed-biden-on-ukraine-reforms-kfile/index.html
My assumption is that it doesn't matter to him if China does it or not. Maybe it'll make them think it can be a bargaining chip in a trade deal (which is terrible from our perspective, btw). But, I think Trump's motivation was simply to double-down in the face of criticism. Where most politicians try to apologize when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, Trump goes the opposite direction and brazenly asserts that he's right and that you're an idiot if you think he was wrong. Textbook abusive husband kind of stuff. But we've seen him do this many times before. We know the play.
So, as the stuff about the Bidens starts to to be less and less believable... the republican story changes too...
And other republicans are changing their stance... GOP Sen. Joni Ernst: 'Whistleblowers should be protected' https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/464275-gop-senator-whistleblowers-should-be-protected
Also, what if China did do an investigation and found that the Bidens engaged in some corruption there? What American -- aside from the die-hard Trumper -- is going to believe the Chinese? We don't really trust China at all.
Then Biden should resign/quit unless we want another foreign compromised idiot with the backing from one of the two major political parties of the US
