Okay, wait, hold up. I may not be an expert criminal investigator or a member of Homeland Security, but aren't the coincidences between the Ft. Hood killings and 9/11 rather curious? The 9/11 hijackers used airplanes for their attacks; Hasan worked on a military base that had aircraft on it. You know who else used aircraft? George Bush had an airplane. I'm just saying. Guess who was president during 9/11, too? Yeah, George Bush. Awfully coincidental, isn't it? And you know what else? Fort Hood is in Texas. George Bush lives in Texas. I'm not trying to point fingers or anything, but isn't it CONVENIENT that George Bush was president during 9/11, lives in Texas, and flew on an airline during his presidency while at the same like Hasan was linked to the 9/11 hijackers, committed his heinous act in Texas at a military base containing airplanes? Questions are being asked and George Bush must acknowledge these coincidences.
Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/fort-...tory?id=9030873 U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News. It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) said the CIA had, so far, refused to brief the intelligence committees on what, if any, knowledge they had about Hasan's efforts. CIA director Leon Panetta and the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, have been asked by Congress "to preserve" all documents and intelligence files that relate to Hasan, according to the lawmaker. Hoekstra said he is "absolutely furious" that the house intel committee has been refused an intelligence briefing by the DNI or CIA on Hasan's attempt to reach out to al Qaeda, as first reported by ABC News. Investigators want to know if Hasan maintained contact with a radical mosque leader from Virginia, Anwar al Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen and runs a web site that promotes jihad around the world against the U.S. According to his site, Awlaki served as an imam in Denver, San Diego and Falls Church, Virginia. The Associated Press reported Sunday that Major Hasan attended the Falls Church mosque when Awlaki was there. The Telegraph of London reported that Awlaki had made contact with two of the 9/11 hijackers when he was in San Diego. He denied any knowledge of the hijacking plot and was never charged with any crime. After an intensive investigation by the FBI, Awlaki moved to Yemen. People who knew or worked with Hasan say he seemed to have gradually become more radical in his disapproval of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. On Sunday, Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) called for an investigation into whether the Army missed signs as to whether Hasan was an Islamic extremist. "If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have a zero tolerance," Lieberman told Fox News Sunday. A fellow Army doctor who studied with Hasan, Val Finell, told ABC News, "We would frequently say he was a Muslim first and an American second. And that came out in just about everything he did at the University." Finell said he and other Army doctors complained to superiors about Hasan's statements. "And we questioned how somebody could take an oath of office…be an officer in the military and swear allegiance to the constitution and to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic and have that type of conflict," Finell told ABC News. The Army Chief of Staff, General George Casey, raised concerns over the weekend that innocent Muslim soldiers could suffer as a result of the shooting at Fort Hood. "I think the speculation (on Hasan's Islamic roots) could potentially heighten backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers," he said on ABC's "This Week."
I am not sure to be honest. I think the unibomber was a terrorist - so was the anthrax guy. They acted alone presumably, but it was their ability to repeatedly target and wage a "campaign" that made them terrorist like. But what was weird in those cases - they didn't ask for anything. THe IRA - wanted independence. Suicide bombers have an agenda. Even Timothy McVeigh wanted to deliver a message - but what was his agenda? The fall of the U.S. gov't? Doesn't seem reasonable. With this guy from ft hood - I am not sure if he had an agenda or if he just "snapped". I don't know all the details so I can't tell you. Lashing out from anger...might not be terrorism although it has a similar result.
A friend of the family is one of the head doctors over at Ft. Hood and she said she was pretty pissed off about this whole thing. She said the Army screwed this one up pretty bad by not discharging the guy since the Army is so desperate for psychiatrists. she said he has been a known problem for years now.
Nobody is quite sure what the person sending out anthrax wanted since he killed himself but the Unibomber definately had an agenda and wanted to see the downfall of the modern airline and energy industry. Reasonable demands aren't a requirement of terrorism for example the 9/11 hijackers didn't have any demand that was reasonable. Anyway just weighing in and I agree that "terrorism" does require some sort of goal / agenda. I don't think terrorism is an end unto itself but a tactic.
solution: stop fighting elective wars when we are struggling to pay for them and have a shortage of resources to do so, including apparently including psychiatrists treating the resulting mental problems of the 1.0% who go to fight the wars the chickenhawks are so fond of.
yes, certainly seems so, but you'd think that even in a PC world, contact with al queda would raise a major red flag.
unclear. but i think this info gives the lie to the "emotionally deranged individual who snapped under PTSD-by-proxy syndrome."
I think all we have are theories, and nobody said that was a definitive reason why he snapped. So there wasn't really a lie to begin with.
could he have turned to militant islam as a reaction to being treated poorly after the 9/11 attacks? i don't try and excuse people who turn violent, but there are always reasons...
and yet dude was drinking and getting lap dances a week before the shooting. This is the biggest load of crap served by the media I have ever seen. Dude is just one crazy man, a guy with a serious mental disorder and it's ridiculous that no one recognized it before the tragedy..
he attended the mosque at the same time as the 9/11 hijackers. clearly he was attracted to militant islam before 9/11. no doubt he got some abuse after, but some of it he also brought on himself by very aggressively proselytizing. and in any case, i've been called much worse than a camel jockey on this board...
