FWIW, UH is currently enacting a master plan to shift from a commuter campus to a more traditional residential campus. There is a layout online of how and where they are going to build housing, parking lots, etc. Its actually really amazing to see what they plan on doing and what the University will look like when it is finished. They already took a vote on how much money and (relatively) how to transform the crappy looking University Center into something much more impressive.

i really think the athletic program will be rejuvenated once more students actually live on campus and go to the games.

A tier 1 university has to look like one before they will get the appropriate funding to become one.

    1. SMU 94%

    2. UH 93.3%

    3. Baylor 91.5

    4. UT 90.2

Also Health and Human Performance Ranked #1 nationally.

The Ranking below come from a Wiki Page on U of H.

    Rankings

The University of Houston is ranked second among national universities for Campus Ethnic Diversity by U.S. News & World Report.[23] It also ranks the Bauer College of Business as the top Undergraduate Business Program in Houston, third among public universities in the state of Texas, and 63rd in the nation among public universities. The ranking places the Bauer College in the top quartile of the approximately 400 AACSB-accredited undergraduate business programs and top five percent among all 1608 undergraduate business programs in the United States.[24]

The evening MBA program was ranked as the 27th best part-time MBA program in the country by Businessweek in 2007.[25] It also ranks 5th among public universities for producing CEOs of S&P 500 companies, according to Bloomberg Markets. Houston was tied with the University of Michigan and Dartmouth.[26] The EMBA Program ranked 17th in the U.S. among public EMBA programs according to the 2004 Financial Times ranking of the top 75 EMBA Programs in the World.[27]

Additionally, the college's Entrepreneurship program ranked number 1 in the nation by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine in 2008, up from number 2 in 2007.[28]

The University of Houston Law Center is a Tier I law school, currently ranked 55th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.[29] In addition, the news magazine ranks three of the Law Center's specialty programs in the top ten in the country: the Health Law and Policy Institute (Healthcare Law), the Institute for Intellectual Property and Information Law (IP Law), and the Blakely Advocacy Institute (Trial Advocacy).[30]

The Hines College of Architecture is one of only 36 schools to have an accreditation certificate from the NAAB for both Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs.[31] It recently added an industrial design program, the first in the state of Texas.[32] In 2002, the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management ranked third in the nation in hospitality management by the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Education.[33] Additionally, according to the Institute for Scientific Information, five of the top fifty cited physicists in the world come from the university's College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

I'm not sure what the stats now are but during my year, the average SAT (with the old scoring) was around the 1300 range. Most people were top 10%. Applying to Trinity is also free I believe so it doesn't hurt to try.

What are you thinking about studying?

Ray Nimmer taking over as dean, with Richard Alderman as associate dean, has really made things better. They need a new facility bad, but rankings continue to improve.

You understand the way you've written this post: with no capitalization, child-like grammar and puncuation, and unneccessary profanity, re-inforces just about every single negative stereotype there is about U of H students, right? Now I know why they never took our AP English scores.

I went there, and it's like going to a "good" public high school. Ultimately, you'll get out of it exactly what you put into it. It's probably the best "deal" in Texas: cheaper and easier to get into than UT, but it's the biggest school in the biggest job market in Texas; so if you choose your major early on, keep your grades (way) up, get good school-year internships, go to every single guest speaker related to your major, and network well enough with local companies, you'll be in just as good a position as anyone else in the state.

By the way, whatever the hell we do in terms of funding, research and facilities, UT and A&M will respond tenfold. For all of our insecurity about competing with them, they feel the same way about competing with flagship universities in the rest of the country.

if i am not writing a paper or anything professional where it actually makes a difference how i am writing, then i could care less. i am not gonna sit here and take my time to edit my posts lol. just type it and hit submit. bc whether i type it with correct punctuation/capitalization or without it, everyone (or most of everyone) understands what i am saying. i think the way those ppl are bashing that kid that goes to UT bc he typed your instead of you're is kinda stupid. who cares. i find mistakes ppl write all the time and i dont sit here and correct them.

If you want folks to respect you as a representative of your university- you should use better grammar and punctuation.

Really? I know Bauer has top notch connections in terms of energy and derivative markets, but UT MBA is a top 20 MBA. Rice, I do agree is vastly over rated for grad school.

Well if he is trying to represent his school in a positive manner (and that is what I assume he is trying to do), he should at least write as if he has a high school level education. If the thread was about Doritos it would be different.

    He's right.

I am probably the longest standing Cougar fan on this board, but your posts are pretty much embarrassing.

The problem, "balla," is that we won't "catch you" doing schoolwork; that's the point. This is all we have to go on. You make a post lamenting the intellectual and academic reputation of our school, then you display a laziness and ineloquence that all but proves the point. As I said before, you get what you put into it. If you mumble and slack off because that's what you think you can get away with, no one will take you seriously.

Have fun learning that over the next four years.

WOWWW. ARE YALL REALLY SERIOUS?! THIS IS A FORUM. NOT AN ESSAY. I DO NOT CARE, AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU. WHAT ARE YOU MY PROFESSOR THAT I NEED TO SHOW YOU THAT I KNOW HOW TO WRITE?! (AND I KNOW ONE OF YOU IDIOTS WAS GOING TO SAY SOMETHING SMART OR STILL IS ABOUT BEING MY PROFESSOR EVEN AFTER WRITING THIS). COME ON. YOU ARE TOTALLY GETTING AWAY FROM THE WHOLE POINT OF THE THREAD. IF I DO NOT SATISFY YOUR NEEDS OF WRITING A PERFECT POST, I DO NOT CARE. LET ME REPEAT THAT. I DO NOT CARE DO NOT READ WHAT I WRITE THEN. HOW ABOUT YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE THREAD IN A POSITIVE MANNER RATHER THAN START TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T MATTER AT ALL. AND DO NOT SAY THAT "OHH YOU WERE TRYING TO TALK ABOUT UH BEING A TIER 1 SCHOOL, AND THIS IS THE WAY YOU TYPE, AND YOU MAKE US LOOK DUMB." NO. IF THAT WAS THE CASE THEN I WOULD BE PAYING FOR SCHOOL RIGHT NOW, BUT GUESS WHAT I DO NOT. DO YOU KNOW WHY? BECAUSE I GOT A SCHOLARSHIP. DO YOU KNOW WHY I GOT A SCHOLARSHIP? BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO DOING AND SAYING THE RIGHT THINGS AT THE RIGHT TIME, I KNOW HOW TO DO THAT. I DO NOT NEED TO IMPRESS YOU WITH MY WRITING SKILLS. ITS SO SAD THAT YOU HAVE TO RUIN A THREAD ABOUT STUPID THINGS LIKE THIS. GROW UP.
OH YEAH POUHE. INELOQUENCE IS NOT EVEN A WORD. NICE ONE!
