I don't see how it would matter one way or the other, Dirk has already played more games than Olajuwon did in Houston so if he passes him, it would just be a "compiler" type accomplishment rather than a show of dominance. It's sort of like how Kobe is still hoping to one day pass MJ on the scoring list even though it would be irrelevant because he's already played 173 more games than MJ ever did. When it takes you more time to do something, it is less of an accomplishment because in 2+ more seasons worth of games, you ought to score more points.
Dude, Wade was the best player in the 2011 Finals, even including Dirk. He played 39 mpg and averaged 26.5 points in the series. at you claiming he was hurt.
I agree with you that Wade was plenty healthy in those playoffs and the guy who said he was just "hurt" is an idiot who speaks nothing but BS, but to say that Wade was better than Dirk in that series is just.......well pathetic. Dirk made ALL the big shots. Last I checked Wade scored some points and did nothing important to win the games. Dirk scored points and when the game was on the line....he iced it.
You're right. Dirk made all the big shots. Like in Game 5, when he hit a huge clutch 3 pointer to put the Mavs up by 7 with 30 seconds left. Oh wait. That was Jason Terry. Well, never mind then. Well, what about Game 6, the series decider? Surely, Dirk's clutchness means that he no doubt took the game over down the stretch... Oh, he needed 27 shots to hit 21 points. Look, I'm not denying that Dirk played great in that series. But to state Wade "scored some points" is hyperbole. 26.5 points on 55% shooting and a 61 TS%. That's utterly insane. There's absolutely nothing wrong, contrary to what ESPN may tell you, to believe that the best player in a series may not have played for the winning team. The Mavs didn't win because Dirk was the best player on the court. They won because the whole team, including Dirk, showed up for the series, while for Miami, Lebron had that stinker, Bosh was outplayed by Tyson Chandler, and the Heat bench sucked ass then.
To crack the Top 10, James Harden will have to spend the next 12 years averaging 25 ppg without missing significant time to injury. It's certainly possible, but far from a given. He's done that twice in his career, and it's difficult to project that for 12 more years. Especially for a player like Harden, who greatly relies on his first step and his ability to get to the basket. As Harden approaches his mid-30s, there's going to be a pretty big dropoff in his ability to score. He's doesn't have the post-game of MJ or Kobe, nor does he have their size and physicality.
Scary that Hakeem is in the top 10 considering the defensive stalwart he was. Will no doubt be out of the top 10 in a few years with LeBron approaching. Took KD 7 seasons to get to 15,000... 15 years from now, the top 8 will likely be 1 LeBron 2. Durant 3. Jabbar 4 Malone 5. Kobe 6 Jordan 7 Wilt 8 Dirk
Oh I see what you did there. You took 2 ****ty points from an entire series and tried to use it to make your point. Clearly you are one of those guys that looks at box scores and does not actually watch the games. Because if you want to tell me that Wade was better than Dirk in that series then you are a fool. Lets start with your first point. Did Jason Terry play a big part in the Mavs winning a championship in 2011, hell yes. He was great and nobody was arguing that. My point was Dirk was unreal in that whole playoff run and then when the moment mattered in the finals he always stepped up to the plate. Yes sometimes he did not have to because Jason Terry had some big shots, but you cant just say that because Terry hit a big three in game 5 that dirk did not hit all the big shots he took. Though you seem to want to play that game so let me go ahead and teach you a thing your two. Game 2: Game is tied 90-90 and Dirk hits a 3 pointer to put the Mavs up 93-90 with 26 seconds left. Then on the next play Jason Terry is suppose to be guarding Chalmers but is nowhere near him. Chalmers gets a wide open 3 and ties the game up with 24 seconds left. Dirk then scores on a driving layup with 3 seconds left to put the mavs up 95-93. Then Wade misses a half court shot to lose the game, but not without doing his classic I got fouled flop and holding his eye as if he had been punched. Classic p***y wade bull****. Game 4: Mavs up 82-81 Dirk drives and makes a layup to go up 84-81 with 14.4 seconds left. then with 9 second left the Mavs are up 86 to 83 and Miami has a chance to hit a 3 to tie it up. The ball is thrown into Wade, who fumbles it away and has to dive into the back court and throw it wildly to Miller. Miller had no chance because of this and air balls a 3 to lose the game. So wade pissed away their chance to tie it up. Game 6: Dirk was off for 3 quarters. Jason Terry carried the Mavs in the first half and without him I am not sure the Mavs could have pulled out a win in this one, but when the 4th quarter started Dirk was Dirk. He made his final 5 shots to win his first NBA championship. These are just some of the big shots he hit in that series to WIN GAMES. They were defining shots that decided the game. Everything was on the line. He stepped up and the fact is Wade did not. Not to mention that Dirk averaged 26 pts and 9.7 rbs a game in that series. He also averaged 10.3 pts in the 4th quarter. That is the 4th highest 4th quarter scoring average in finals history....only behind Shaq and Jordan. But you are right Jason Terry had that big three pointer so ya I guess Wade was the better player in that series.....my mistake.
Oh and not to mention that the entire Dallas defense was geared to stop Lebron not Wade. So Wade naturally got his. The difference is the entire Miami defense was trying to stop Dirk.....they just could not do it. On the other hand Dallas shut down Lebron by showing him 7 different defensive looks and never showing him the same one back to back.
dude just stop replying to him...he has no idea how foolish he looks. Dirk was the best player for the ENTIRE 2011 playoffs
I disagree. Harden relies less on athleticism than Kobe ever did. His game is very crafty, and I think it will help him have a longer career.
And you're one of those guys who follows ESPN and buys into that bullcrap about clutch narratives and all that. It reminds me of how people would never shut the hell up about that Landry-Martin trade because of some stupid 4th quarter stat. Newsflash: A guy who scores 30 points in the first three quarters and 6 in the last is just as good as a guy who scores 6 points in the first three quarters and 30 in the last. What you're claiming about Dirk's Game 6, after all, is what some people will say about Kobe's 6-24 game - "he hit some shots down the stretch, so it doesn't matter that he sucked for the first 40 minutes". My argument is that yeah it does. Secondly, I'm not denying that Dirk hit big shots down the stretch. But you're the one who claimed that he hit ALL of them, and that's not true. As you've acknowledged with Jason Terry, and as you've acknowledged with your statement "Dallas shut down Lebron by showing him 7 different defensive looks and never showing him the same one back to back", it was a team Dallas effort that beat a team Miami effort. Not a "Dirk singlehandedly wills the Dallas Mavericks to victory in the Finals." It was a very good Finals - but it was one where Wade was much more efficient, hit big shots as well. Heck, if you want to play the rebounding game, I would point out that Wade averaged 7 rebounds in the series, and a SG getting 7 rebounds is if anything more impressive than a PF getting 10. "Dirk was the best player for the entire 2011 playoffs", and "Dirk was not the best player in the 2011 NBA Finals" are not contradictory statements. If you're so smart, you should have figured that out.
Heh... I don't think so. Wade was hurt on and off? I seem to recall only one all-star battling a busted tendon in one hand and having the flu in another game. Wade only played 3 less minutes than Bosh and 28 less than Lebron in that series. He did manage to take more shots and was the leading scorer for the team by almost 10ppg. Wow...
