We brought about 3-4 thousand loud and extremely enthusiastic fans to New Orleans for the Tulane game, and we brought about 15 thousand fans to the Liberty Bowl. If the away support has been any indication, we'll have some great home attendance this season.
Well then why can't your bring 33,000 people to Robertson Stadium? It's no where near as far as the other places. According to this PDF from the NCAA website http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/attendance/2006/2006_football_attendance.pdf You guys averaged 20,000 fans last year and that was your break out season, wasn't it? 15,000 fans in 2005! Come on. Don't talk about tradition and support with those numbers. How many people pay to see the team, that's what matters. Your attendance is below average, your program has not been consistently strong in the last 5 years. In fact, it's been pretty mediocre. Just cause you are in Houston, doesn't mean there is money in having you in the conference. You are competing against all pro sports teams so don't expect cash to roll in if UH gets into a conference. Someone was talking about how things are changing. Great. I hope they do. Put together a string of good years, wins against conference teams and conference titles, THEN let's talk about being in a big conference. TCU is 5-1 or something like that against Big 12 opponents. Do that or at least Beat Miami. Beat Oregon. Those are selling points.
Reference back to the SWC days and what occurred in the aftermath of the death of it to UH. Rome wasn't built in a day,but things are a changin. Our upside is huge.
