Cougars finally put a bit of a running game and a bit of defense with their hard to stop passing attack. The Pirates were probably overrated because VTech and West Virgina aren't as good as the pollsters thought. Still a big win for the Coogs.
East Carolina *IS* is a top 25 team, and will be again by years end. Huge win for the Cougars, CUSA should take notice.
Congrats coogs! Perhaps the talking heads will mention someone besides east carolina and memphis when talking about C-USA
Shoulda beat air force and colorado state too. i bet the cougars win the rest of their schedule out. just gotta worry about tulsa and the rest they got covered.
After watching the highlights from this game, I dont think I can agree with that... we fumbled 4 times, lost it 3 times. It was not pretty. However, beating a ranked team is still a huge win in my book.
I disagree. ECU was a top 25 team. ECU won't be top 25 again this season. The only reason ECU was ranked was by beating ranked VT and WVU. IMO those wins have been erased by two losses to "bad" teams. Who does ECU play now that is "good"? ECU's loss was bad for the conference. The only other team with a chance to be ranked is Tulsa (btw, ECU wouldn't play Tulsa until the championship game). Tulsa won't be ranked because of its soft schedule. With parity in the league, Tulsa may lose...starting with Rice this week.
Im already getting sick of people calling Rice upsets everywhere so lets settle this right now- v. SMU W (currently 1-4, they blow. Only win was against Texas State. June Jones is gonna need more than a summer to turn that ship around...) v. Memphis W (took a ridiculous turn of events for the Owls to win this game and the Tigers are currently 2-3 with wins against Nicholls St. and Arkansas St.) v. Vanderbilt L 38-21 v. Texas L 52-10 v. North Texas W ( currently in quest of the perfect season, 0-4.) v. Tulsa (currently 4-0, its also going to be their homecoming game) If Rice wins next week, then I will take a second look. otherwise, not much has changed at Main Street with the exception of a good receiver that makes his QB look good. UH has dissapointed with a 2-3 start. I can fully understand the difficulty that the students had with moving to Dallas for their 'home' game (which turned into anything but with AF fans showing up in dallas) and then moving up the game time as well the day before. They lost by 3. Losing to Colorado State was still unacceptable even tho the team was stuck in Dallas for most of the week, finally got to come back home Thursday and then had to fly out to Colorado. I expected them to be at least 3-2 at this point and 9-3 for the season, but **** happens. Getting back on track was nice, especially winning against a ranked opponent for the first time in over a decade. Lets hope they get their act together.
Tulsa has played nobodies...UAB, North Texas, New Mexico. Tulsa struggled before pulling away against I-AA Central Arkansas. The Nerds also have a chip on their shoulder. As Lee Corso would put it, Tulsa wins but closer than the experts think.
