Fights about to start. I'm excited to see Dos Santos and Bones Jones each Knockout their respective opponents.
Man, Vera has been a beast lately, so him and Bones Jones is going to be a tough matchup for both opponents. I got Dos Santos via knockout. Really a drecent card overall, not PPV material, but better than most Fight Nights. Kam, this is their first card on Versus, which also airs their little brother WEC. I dont think they are entirely moving, but just broading thier programming ala WWE.
Dos Santos vs. Cain is going to be sick. Dos Santos impressed me so much, but I wasn't even surprised.
Brandon Vera was to be the next great heavyweight figher, but I don't think the guy is all that. I base this solely on the fact that just about every major fighter he's gone up against, he's lost. I don't know if it's because he dropped weight from his early fights or if it's because he just was never as great as his record initially showed.
Here's the problem with Brandon "The Truth" Vera, it's that he's a tweener fighter. When he's a heavy weight, he easily defeats the lower level fighters in that class because he's faster and a more technical fighter. But when he fights to the upper echeleon guys, who happen to to hover around the max weight for heavyweights, he just can't hang, and that pretty much goes for anyone in that division. If you aren't maxing out your weight/body to go along with improving your skills you have no chance. Brock is just way too big and powerful, once he gets you to the ground its just a matter of time before he pounds your face in. Same with Shane Carwin. Frank Mir realized this after his rematch with Brock and has been working on power lifting to max out his size and strength. Now back to Vera...when he moves down to light heavyweight, not only does he have to deal with the weight cut, but his speed and technical skills are no longer an advantage for him because of how stacked and skilled that division is. He just becomes an average fighter there. That elbow that Bones threw at Vera looked like a fastball
great fights last night. I missed the sandmans fight. Was it good? In reality Dos Santos should be up for a title fight against Brock. Him or Carwin. No one wants to see Mir V Brock again. Can't wait til this weekend tho. Hardy is going to get handled like an ametuer.
The Sandman fight didnt really have much to it. He got hit in the eye early on, by a clean punch, the doc stopped the fight, b/c he couldnt see, but b/c the punch was clean, and not a finger poke.... Sakara won. (A ton of instant replays to see if the punch was clean or a finger poke)
Actually, I think a lot of people would want to see this fight again. After Lesnar v Mir 2, Mir's obsession with Brock has bordered on disturbing. "I dream about Brock." LMAO. I would love to have Brock hamburger his face in again. also, they are 1-1, so a rubber match is most definitely needed, especially if Mir beats Carwin. I like Dos Santos, but beating Gonzaga doesn't automatically make him a contender. Dos Santos vs Velasquez would be a nice fight. and in regards to Vera: The good ol days.
I know! I think its hilarious the hype this fight is getting. UFC Primetime coming back to cover this, GSP saying this is going to be his "toughest fight" yet? I know he doesnt mean that and just saying that because right when he said that, BJ Penn immediately entered my mind. But yea Hardy might be a good striker but GSP is world class on the ground and in his earlier days showed hes a dynamic striker as well due to his athleticism. The thing about the welterweight division and the lightweight division is that the two champs (GSP and Penn) are just on a whole other level than everyone else. Does the UFC really think Hardy or Frankie "the decision" Edgar can really win the championship? Hardy atleast stands a puncher's chance (Matt Serra) but Frankie...no chance. Diego, Ken-Flo, and even my boy Joe Daddy Stevenson I think are better than Edgar and they all got wrecked by Penn
