It is fair to call it ducking and cowardly to avoid a fighter with an 8 day window because Jones has been training and he's already in fight shape/form. If Jones called out Chael do you think Chael would turn the fight down because he only has an 8 day window? Hell No. Furthermore, Chael is a "ruthless bull rushing fighter" that fights a division below Jones who's susceptible to submissions and has no H-Bomb. It's not like Jones hasn't fought good wrestlers before in Evans, Hamill and Bader. Also, the likely outcome would probably be Jones dominating Chael via whatever the F he wants. But for him to talk a bunch of **** and then back down when it comes down to it makes him a joke.

This is going to shock some of you I guess, but it is UNCOMMON for a fighter to agree to fight on a week's notice. It doesn't happen. Don't you think Dana White would prefer to have his fighters fighting more than 1-2 times a year (barring injuries).

Dude come on. A training camp is often built entirely around the opponent's fighting style. In this training camp for Henderson, do you think they gave equal time to head movement and submission defense? LOL Sonnen is a completely different fighter than Henderson. A training camp for a fight with Sonnen would be largely based on takedown defense, something Jones really didn't need to worry about with Hendo.

Lyoto and Shogun both apparently turned down a rematch with Jones because of the short notice. Should they be thrown out of MMA?

I guarantee you that if Dana was willing to book Chael vs Jones down the road Jones would take the fight. Guarantee it.

Evans didn't even try to wrestle with Jones in their fight.

So because he spoke about never getting a DUI and 2 years later makes a mistake and does that and responds to being called out by Chael but declines to fight Chael as a replacement for Hendo he's a fake?

I can understand if Bones turned into LiLo in terms of DUI's and then also kept talking ish to Chael yet routinely declines to fight Chael or say's he'll never fight Chael, how one could consider him a fake; but him making a terrible(what could have been costly) mistake and refusing to take on a fighter (who called him out first) without having adequate time to prepare for that fighter doesn't make him fake in my opinion.

Time will tell as to that but I feel you're rushing to judgement as to his character and him being an a-hole.

Regardless, you don't like him right now and that's cool. To each...

Fighters turning down fights on irregular schedules. This problem doesn't happen when the fight is setup in a contractually agreed upon way. Too many of you seem to think that all that happens in an MMA training camp is you practice all skills equally and then go in there and fight your own style with no regards for the other fighter. This isn't amateur hour or local fights at the Arena Theater. These are fighters making a lot of money.

Of course Chael would take the fight on 8 days because it gets him into another big PPV main event and a title shot that he is unlikely to be able to get again any time soon any other way.

Not everyone is Chael- in terms of not turning down a fight because of a small window of time to prepare. Some fighters are more calculated in terms of the studying and preparation they choose to do.
Who's to say Chael hasn't spent the time since the Anderson fight, studying up on Bones(while training with Hendo) and what he'll need to do to be successful in the Octagon against him?
Regardless, kudo's to Chael for accepting the fight on short notice. Even though I think Bones should've taken the fight(from a fight fan's perspective) I can understand him not doing so.

Actually these are fighters making zero money at least as far as UFC 151 is concerned because the whole card is being scrapped because of Jones. Injuries happen all the time and replacements are always found. I feel bad for all the fighters that worked hard and invested money in their training camps and expected to get a paycheck. Not all these guys make Jon Jones money. Plus as a fan if be pissed off if I purchased plane tickets and booked a hotel. If cain velasquez gets injured 8 days before his fight with JDS and a replacement is needed... Would JDS decline Ryan Bader for example if he stepped up? Doubtful.

I'm not sure - when you get beat up like Machida did it puts some fear in your mind. I don't think it's unreasonable for Machida to want a proper training camp to prepare for Jones.

At any rate we're really starting to see how thin the UFC is right now -- HW, LH, and MW don't have a lot of interesting match ups left. Hendo v. Jones and Dos Santos v. Reem would obviously be fun, but it looks like we'll be waiting a long time for those fights.

That's lame as a fighter and a champion.

Need more fighters like Aldo, Buakaw.....real genuine warriors w/real humility.

I don't think Sonnen could beat Jones either, even with a full training camp.

Don't know why Jones wouldn't accept the fight. He's the champ and all signs indicate he is pretty confident in his skills. He'd be fighting a smaller guy who would have had virtually no time to train. Plus accepting the fight would have saved the event. I just don't get it

Machida won the 1st round I believe against Jones up until he got caught in the 2nd round and standing guillotine choke...
