Legend has it that people from either MMA or an athletic commission once saw people breaking ice blocks with their elbows and said that if anybody did that to someones face or head, it would be deadly. I think even Rogan said that's why it's outlawed, but who knows. The 12-6 strike onto a downed fighter's face could cause some ridiculous damage, though, like crushing their sinuses, blowing out an eye orbit, or blech... an eye. There are those that think this is stupid because a straight punch could potentially do the same, but a the power of a punch is dispersed across the face of the fist. Yeah, it can knock you out and be violent, but all that force coming down to a focuses point (elbow) can seriously jack somebody up. They do allow the 3-9 elbow, though. I think the 12-6 is outlawed by most major MMA organizations (not sure).
