Penn has always been one of my favorite fighters, but I wonder how motivated he has been for this fight. Watching a recent interview of his, he seemed.....well, sad. IMO you could see it in his eyes.
Still pulling for him here though.
In regards to the Toney-Couture fight, I'll be surprised if this fight gets out of the first round, regardless of who wins. I love boxing, so a part of me is for the "representative" here. But Randy is always such a nice guy, it's hard to be against him.

I wonder what he sounded like pre-boxing? lol. I thought the same thing - it's kind of sad if you're an American speaking English and people still need to use subtitles on you to understand you.

This is a tough one to call. On one hand, I'm a huge Couture fan and have always disliked Toney so I would love to see Randy beat James bloody. On the other hand, I think this is a real punk move by Dana White to take a has-been, fat, old, borderline r****ded boxer and put him against one of the best MMA light heavy weights to ever step into the octagon so that makes me want to see his plan backfire with James KOing Randy.

The way I see this, the credibility of MMA is at stake. Boxing has everything to gain and nothing to lose here in the "boxing vs. MMA" debate.

Oh, and for the record, I expect Couture to ground and pound Toney in the first round.

This goes for any boxer vs grappler fight.

The boxer has a 'punchers chance,' but the grappler/wrestler will win 90% of the time

    Randy "The Natural" Couture-575

    James "Lights Out" Toney +400

You just have to take a shot with James Toney here for a 4 to 1 payout!

i know bj penn has the greatness about him but he seems really arrogant. frankie on the other hand jst seems like a regular dude whos a big underdog once again. thats whay im rooting for edgar. also toneys self confidence is really starting to get me to think he wont lose. i think randys going to have to shoot right away, i dont think he can dirty box with him and then take him down. a month ago i thought randy would kill him but now im kinda leaning towards toney and his accuracy.

I doubt that. Then again, we will probably never know as I don't know of any example of an elite, in-his-prime boxer fighting an MMA artist of equal youth and skill.

I do believe that an elite striker with good take-down defense is the most effective MMA fighter so I would think we will eventually see a truly elite striker l(there are none in MMA that I know of right now) make the transition and be very successful.

why is a punk move by dana? toney chased him around trying to get a fight and dana gave it to him. couture stepped up and told dana he wanted to fight toney so he gave couture the fight. plus it's not as if dana is feeding him to the wolves here. randy is 47 years old and way past his prime. i don't see how the credibility of mma is at stake when you are putting 2 over the hill guys against each other. plus are you already forgetting that a boxer, ray mercer, ko'ed former ufc champ tim sylvia?

i don't see any way that toney wins the fight. he clearly doesn't care since he is showing up 20 lbs over his last fight weight and his training camp has been a joke. sure he has a punchers chance but the guy better make sure he lands that punch in the opening couple of minutes or he will be gassed. the only thing that has made me worried for couture is the fact that he is 47 and there were rumors a few weeks before the fight that it may have to be called off due to randy's bum shoulder. i hope randy is somewhere near healthy for this fight. health and age aside, toney simply doesn't stand a chance.

i'd like randy to win and hurt toney bad because toney is a punch drunk idiot, but if randy loses i won't be heart broken.

you don't think anderson silva, overeem, diabate, rua, schilt, etc are elite strikers? or do you mean elite boxers?

a lot of modern boxing simply doesn't translate well into mma. how in the world is a shoulder roll or philly shell gonna do anything in mma? if london prize ring rules were still around boxers might translate better into mma since there was a lot more grappling and clinching.

Toney is the one that went after this fight isn't he? He was basically stalking Dana from what I remember wanting to get a fight in MMA. Both of these guys are past their prime, but it just so happens that Couture takes care of himself and is an athletic freak. Toney can still easily win this fight with one or two punches. He's a fat slob, but his hand speed and power are still probably better than just about anything Couture has seen.
