UConn has historically had problems with turnovers and missed free throws since the Taliek Brown era. They are cursed with those two burdens, and it always seems to cost them.
The record for overtimes, I believe is 7. I've been watching this game since the first half. It's been amazing. The last shot of the game was crazyness. As close as you can get. I think UConn is unravelling without Thabeet.
hilarious. i see this thread, turn it on for the 6th OT, and the game immediately becomes a blowout, making it completely unexciting for me. great. how in the world did syracuse force 6 OT's without leading in any of the first 5.
Lol. Harris has some pretty good talent and great potential...almost, I would venture to say, a Lamar Odom-type player (I don't know if that's a great comparison, but I think it's fair enough). He just looks TIRED. His high school teammate Jonny Flynn seems like he has infinite amounts of energy, though.
As much as I love Jonny and my Orange, comparing him to Chris Paul is a bit premature. Paul made a difference at Wake immediately. Jonny has developed very nicely. I'd say he's a lottery pick, but a late one. If he can bulk up a little more and improve his outside shot (considering the longer NBA 3), he'll be a perennial all-star.
I see him as a mix of Damon Stoudamire, and a poor man's Chris Paul. I also agree about the three point shooting. The amount of assists he's been putting up lately, for college ball, is pretty great.
Not quite Odom. He doesn't have that size. He is developing more into the Ruben Patterson-Bonzi Wells mold. Not great outside shooter for his size. Great build. Has the chance to become a lock-down defender with the proper coaching and correct mindset.
UNBELIEVABLE! Given that the record of seven OT's took place in 1981, I've certainly never seen anything like this. Epic game. Epic battle between A.J. Price and Jonny Flynn. UConn probably deserves to lose this one given that they had like 15 opportunities to win it or ice leads and they blew it all. Not to mention, not fouling when up by three on the last possession of the 3rd OT with under 20 seconds left was a complete brain fart by Calhoun. It should have been over right there.
Thanks for the insight. I like that comparison. My high school is in the same division as Niagara Falls, and I was a year ahead of Jonny Flynn and Paul Harris left after my Senior (I think) year. A bunch of my friends played on our team, and I remember how they dreaded playing Niagara Falls. A buddy of mine was flipping out about having to guard Flynn. That's when I first caught a glimpse of him. He lit our school up, and we were the second place team. It's been great watching these two develop.
I have been hyping up Flynn since last year. Dude is very talented. UCONN really misses Jerome Dyson.
Interesting. How did you end up a Rox fan? I go to SU. I used to write some sports for the newspaper and I was going to go that route, but I prefer hard news and business/finance now. Most of my male classmates cover SU sports though, so I'm very well-connected and have been closely following most of the teams since I got here. The great news is that this Orange team is still very young. No seniors. Harris and Flynn are expected to stay in school (they would be idiots to leave, because they could both easily fall into the 2nd round). Next year is going to be a GREAT season, especially since Boeheim is a master recruiter.
Want an example of how epic and historic this game was? LeBron recorded his third *CONSECUTIVE* triple double tonight and that's deemed a secondary headline that they haven't even mentioned yet on SportsCenter.
