i think majority of the athletes will still eat in the athlete's village so let's see whether majority of the athletes will be tested positive for steroid and hormone. we will have the answer in about 1 month.

because your side hobby in Judo in NYC is comparable to one's career at stake in the olympics, lol.

Here's a whole book on the subject. It is well known that livestock can transfer hormones to humans. If I'm an olympian, I'd be concerned too. For many, this is a once in a lifetime shot and take every precaution not to screw it up.

    Googled "athlete steriods tainted meat"

When I started this thread, I thought the whole idea of the U.S. bringing it's own food was borderline ridiculous. After reading some of the posts, if I were a 2008 Olympian from the U.S, I'd be scared to eat anything other than what was brought over.

It's really too bad this is an issue because China hosting the Olympics is an incredible global milestone over the last 50-60 years that should be celebrated by everyone. Stuff like this takes some of the joy and luster away for me.

Some thoughts... as someone currently living in Beijing.

    1. I agree with those who say that air quality is actually the most alarming thing in Beijing, rather than food. The amount of construction done for the sake of the Olympics is mind-boggling. Yes, there are things done to it, but I sincerely doubt they can right things in just a month.

    2. People are mistaking "food in China" with "food specifically made for Olympians". I can understand why people may be uncomfortable with the quality of meat and veggies in China, but its not as if the Olympians are going to be fed the same stuff as your average Joe. Besides, I wonder if the US will bring the "organic, non-genetically mutated food", or just "regular food".

    3. I don't really care whether US bring its own food or not. Personally, I think it's a good idea because the best hamburger and sandwiches you can get in Beijing, short of going to very specific areas of the town, is McDonalds and Subway.

    THAT'S SCARY.

Yes...the device for this is called a "bong."

What do they have in China besides egg rolls and Kung Pao anyways? I'd miss the hamburgers and chickenwings from the USA.

The first thing I saw when I left my hotel in Beijing was a McDonald's. Go figure. While we pretty much ate at the hotel when we were there, we did avoid certain things like milk. It's a little different from what we're typically used to. It's kind of like water in Mexico. Locals can drink it fine with no problems but it may cause problems for foreigners.

You are hypersensitive. What makes me a fool? Because I pointed out your spelling mistakes? Spell checker is your best friend.

You didn't get my point. What I tried to say is that the chance that they serve tainted meat to the athletes in the Olympics is next to none.

...about the same chance of WIDE spread usage of lead paint on toys and exporting the toys to America?

...or is it about the same chance that they'd send poisoned dog food to America?

You may have your opinion about the chances of that happening, but if I trained my ENTIRE life for this ...I don't really trust what they tell me.

You may think this is silly, but as an ex-athlete myself you "control" as much as you can about your life before big races and leave nothing to chance. The amount of blood and sweat I've invested, I'm not gonna let something stupid knock me out of a race. In this case, it's not just one race ...it's their whole athletic career on the line if someone tests positive.

    What an analog.

Do you know what an international incident it will be if somehow the meat used in the athletes village is found tainted?

Do you frankly believe that they will not go extra mile to make sure the meat served to the Olympians is fine?

Suppose that we are hosting the Olympics, do you frankly believe that some of the beef that had been recalled here lately would be used in the athletes village?

Can you see my point now? I am discussing with you about the meat that will be used inside the athletes village.
