Ennis - no stats + intangibles Jones - stats (tangibles) + intangibles Jones was way better as a freshmen PG.
Look : http://stats.nba.com/draftcombine/#!/agility/?sort=LANE_AGILITY_TIME&dir=1 Tyus athletic numbers are really not impressive. He may not be a midget as we previously thought but he is slowwww. I really do not want either of my teams to draft him please.
From Kevin Pelton Tyus Jones, PG, Duke Consensus: 2.3 WARP | Big Board: 20 | WARP: 4 Jones ranks fourth in projected WARP (2.8), but his ranking on Ford's Big Board pushes him down. Scouts have good reason to question Jones' combination of small stature and non-elite athleticism, but he demonstrated en route to a national championship his strong skills and leadership. If Jones can hang with bigger foes, he'll be a steal.
I'm not as high on Tyus Jones as most of CF seems to be. Granted, I haven't seen him a whole hell of a lot, but what I have seen was just ok and gave me no reason to believe he would excel in the NBA.
Who would you rather have? Jerian Grant or Cameron Payne or other? All three would be a good fit here in one way or another.
Neither Grant, Payne, nor Tyus is going to do more to help us win a championship next season than a guy like Ramon Sessions would. All 3 of those guys may be better down the road but why spend a draft pick on them when we can sign a guy that will contribute more to our championship aspirations next season and then use the pick on something else? It's difficult, very difficult to sign elite big men. Most of them you have to draft....or possibly trade for if they are a pending free agent and want to change teams. In my humble opinion, the first round of the draft should be reserved for taking shots at players that could be elite. Either that or you trade the pick with other assets for a player that is elite already. I can't see Tyus, Cameron, nor Grant becoming elite next season. And I have serious doubts how elite they will become in a league that is chock-full of elite talent at point guard.
None of those guys really excite me but if I had to pick one I'd pick Payne. I think I'd rather see us trade the pick + TJones + KPap for a good PG. Lawson, maybe? Though I doubt the salaries work. But something like that would be preferable to taking one of these guys and hoping they'll be good in the long run.
Agree. In the 1st you go for elite upside. You certainly don't reach for a PG. If Morey does pick a PG, then we should all be VERY excited. Believe it or not, I could actually go for a PF. TJones and DMo are both in the final years of their contracts. Capela is our future at center, and KJ is likely a big piece at SG or SF. Personally, I'd try to trade it and a few other assets for Lowry.
There are more and more tall pgs coming out. I have trouble seeing how Tyus Jones will survive in the future league when there are many 6'6 and 6'5 pgs and where pg defence is valued more and more and positionless basketball with players switching and guarding multiple positions is utilised. I really do. All I hear is how the analytics love Tyus Jones and how he will prove the doubters wrong. And that Houston loves him and want to draft him. But for all I try I can't see how he could be a starter in the future. Just can't.
Yes so basically he can be Curry without the elite skills that make him MVP  But yes other than that...Curry lite. They are both undersized pgs with bad defence.
