1. We cannot afford him 2. Bulls aren't interested in MoT 3 Nobody is interested in MoT so we cannot move him.
Chandler would be a dream come true, but he's a dream come true for a lot of teams out there so I doubt the Rockets outbid everyone for him. What about Kwame Brown?
Chandler isn't going anywhere, he likes being on the Bulls, and they aren't dumb enough to let him go unless someone does something improbable like offering him the max, which the Rockets can't afford anyway. As for him playing well because this is a contract year, that's not true. Chandler always played hard, but past seasons he has had back problems, and this year they have been less severe (but still present.)
If Chandler is seeking a max, what about Baby Shaq? You sign two solid players to max, then what about guys like Hinrich, Gordon? If so, sooner or later the Bulls will have a starting 5 with max contract. That will be sth to watch.
As has been mentioned by a few, Chandler (and Curry for that matter) will be a restricted free agent. Given that the most the Rockets could "offer" to Chandler is the MLE (6 years, $39-42 million or thereabout), he would be stupid to sign an offer sheet from the Rockets ... even if he really, really wanted to take less to play here (not likely). Restricted free agency means he agrees to the contract terms, but the team isn't set in stone. Could be the team he signs with (Rockets, in this fantasy scenario) or the one he is trying to leave (Bulls). The Bulls would clearly match that. Chandler is only going to use his restricted free agency status if he can get a much fatter contract than the Bulls are offering him. That would force the Bulls to make a decision: Match or let him go. See the Clippers for some good examples of all this. Matching: Elton Brand Clippers-Heat and Corey Maggette Clippers-Jazz. Not matching: Lamar Odom Clippers-Heat, Andre Miller Clippers-Nuggets and Quentin Richardson Clippers-Suns. If Chandler doesn't get an offer he likes from anyone, then he could sign a one-year offer from the Bulls and become an unrestricted free agent in 2006. This is exactly what Stromile Swift did last summer. So in a nutshell, forget free agency making a Chandler-Rockets connection. Trade? Always possible, but doubtful. As stated before though, Swift is an unrestricted free agent this summer. If you want to hope to somehow, someway get lucky with a player "taking less" to play here, he's the guy you hope for I would guess.
I would be scared to pick him up for superstitious reasons. He bears the curse of being the #2 pick in the draft.
even money i'd take stromile swift first and it looks like he's the better shot we have as well. chandler is good but if the word max is being thrown around that's pretty funny.
If we want Chandler we have to see what teams next year will be under the salary cap and would have enought o give him MX dollars. Second, ther's gonna be a new CBA before players can resign and that might complicate matteres. Nevertheless, Chandler would be ideal alongside YAO. He can start at the 4 andgive yao some rest at the 5. Something else about him that I noticed... O was at the game lst night and he had this no look pass to Deng (I believe) under the basket when he could have dunked it himself. When the night ended the guy had 20 reb (9 offense) and three blks. This guy is almost looks like Garnett without the offense, but right know he reminds me of Rodman.
The only way I see anything happening with the Rockets and Chandler is if Chandler really wants to play here and the Rockets tell him they are willing to pay him X dollars and do a sign and trade with Chicago. Chandler would then have to go back to Chicago and tell them he wants a sign and trade with Houston or he is gonna sign the one year tender and walk away from them next year with zero compensation. In that case, Chicago may fear losing him enough to do a S&T with us for a couple #1s, Spoon, and whatever else, so they get something for him. To do this, he is gonna have to ignore some other team's major bucks offer (Atlanta? or Charlotte?). Chandler would indeed be intriguing next to Yao. He's obviously a beast on the boards. I really don't think he has a jump shot though and I think that is a key component of any PF that plays with Yao. He's got to be able to hit the 15-17 footer.
From the look of things now, it seems likely that only about seven (7) NBA teams will be under the salary cap next season to make any significant impact in the FA market - LA Clippers, Bobcats, Cleveland Cavs, Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden state warriors (only barely) and Chicago Bulls. Of course trade dealine moves could change all of that. That is the sub plot behind all this rFA and uFA talks. I am with Clutch on this one, Tyson Chadler is not happening save for a trade - StroSwift is more like the guy we have a little chance with.
This guy would be awesome in a rockets uni. TWIN TOWERS ! This guy can already rebound, and he just has a lot of room to fill that potential... It won't happen anyways, we dont' have the money... In my ESPN NBA 2k5 league, I traded Juwon and a 1st rounder for Chandler...it's a video game, but he's averaging 12 boards a game and 15 pts...
I don't think that we have any chance getting Swift either. He declined the Griz offer last summer which was rumored to be in the 6-7 mil per year range. I don't think that he will sign a MLE level contract with us. The only way that we can upgrade the PF position is via a trade where we have to take in an overpaid (but maybe useful) player. If we can trade Mo for another four who's overpaid but can rebound and play defense, we ought to do it.
Ask Yao to call him up! They have known each other since they were teens when Yao first came to the states around 17 yrs old.
We'd be better off waiting for KG. He'd be the perfect compliment to Yao. Either that or Badianne. It's just nice to have options.
Anyone remember Michael Olawakandi? Former Clipper stud, no. 1 pick, breakthrough in his contract year but otherwise mediocre and disappointing?
