I believe he's suppose to be one of those disruptive to the team kind of guys. Oakley wanted to kill him for not paying like 100K or something that Hill lost to him gambling. He does do the dirty work though.
Sorry, but there's already a thread about this from thacabbage. It's been pushed back to page 2. Check it out.
Uh....Painful loss tonight.... Steve Francis doesn't have a good game...Maurice Taylor does... but it isn't enough....Yao Ming's block(of JORDAN's shot) is nullified into goal-tending.... Do the Rockets still have room for a possible acquisition off the waivers of TYRONE HILL? I mean how bad can it get? They're already out of the playoffs for now....
Well.........WHO CARES. GET HIM. GET SOMEBODY. We need some defensive intensity and aggressiveness. BUT WE ALSO NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN SHOOT AND SCORE. AND IS TALL. AND CAN DEFEND.
Sorry, I didn't see this thread posted and posted the same news. I would seriously consider adding Hill. The Rockets have nothing to loose, if they don't make the playoffs they don't have a pick, so I would take the chance on adding a tougher rebouder and defender. 24 more games left they need to make a final push for the playoffs.
Why are we even arguing. Isn't it that after the trade deadline the only way to sign him is with a 10 day contract? Sign a 10 day contract and see how he does.
I would sign him up quick. He may be what we need to actually get into the playoffs. Toughness inside and some consistency, even if it is not much. What can it hurt?
I hate to be negative, but at this point Tyrone can go whereever he wants to. Now, which team do you think he will choose that desperately needs a power forward? The ex-champions. The current team with the number 1 record. Or the team still trying to find its identity and play consistently that has a very real possibility of missing the playoffs.
When I first heard that Hill was cut, the first thing I thought was that his type of player is exactly what we need comming of the bench. Hill is a proven vet. Sure he is old and he won't come in and give us 15 pts or anything, but he will come in and rebound and defend. That is exactly what this team needs. I keep hearing the argument that it would take away minutes from EG and MoTay. In my opinion, that is just what we need. Down the stretch in the West, if you want to win, you have to stop the other teams PF (Dirk, Webb, Sheed, Brand, Duncan, etc...) and Hill will certainly do a better job of that than Eg or Taylor. I believe that managment should jump at the chance to aquire Hill.
Just made my first post on the BBS and it was about this subject (sorry didn't know the rules). Tyrone Hill is a throwback player in the Charles Oakley mold. The Rockets will never contend for a championship with their current mix of players. If all you do is run isolation plays for Francis, Mobley, and Taylor to get 15 foot jumpers or longer, you're going to have a very inconsistent team that can kick your butt when those jumpers are following, but can get beat by anybody when they're not. Check that, you can win some games with this offensive philospohy if you're able to grab some offesnive boards when these jumpers clank off the rim. The Rockets are simply a terrible rebounding team and that means less possesions and attempts for the Rockets and more attempts for the opposition. The Rockets need a physical post rebounder and defender and Tyrone Hill is that type of player. Players like Tyrone Hill also bang inside, tiring out opposing forwards as the game progresses. Yao brings a lot to the team, but a physical inside presence is not one of them. The Rockets need a banger and they need it now if they want to make he playoffs. Hill would not be a long term solution though. I'm still waiting for team management to put some kind of package together, maybe Mobley and Griffin, to get the physical, rebounding power forward they've been missing the past 5 years.
