Astros to the AL? Weigh in

  1. Sure. Let's have a bunch of late-night West Coast games so I can watch the Yankees twice a year.

I don't think anybody really gives a rat's ass about those teams you identified - when was the last time you got jacked for 'Stros-Dodgers? I can tell you the last time for me, it was when Fernando Valenzuela was pitching, or maybe back when the Astros were the first team to beat Hideo Nomo.

Frankly most of those teams you identified stopped being relevant when they split into 3 divisions (arguably when the astros had to deal with Braves in the playoffs it was very annoying). I guess you can say cubs & cards but I don't know if either of them really cares, and that rivalry didn't even start till the divisional split. Swapping them out for Royals and White Sox is kind of a net meh for most I imagine.

Cubs? I really could take em or leave em. The rest I love to see the Stros play. For me, if the AL got rid of the DL, I could accept the change, maybe. I would miss seeing the Dodgers and the way they breathe through their eyelids, like the Lava Lizards of the Galapagos Islands.

unbalanced schedule, my friend. be prepared for large doses of Mariners, Rangers, and A's. *yay*.

While I would be wrong to project my feelings on everyone who follows the Astros, I think the amount of folks who still like seeing the Dodgers, Giants, and Braves every now and then, and wouldn't mind seeing them more, would surprise you.

At any rate, my post wasn't "all Astros fans feel this way", it was how I feel. Somehow, I think there are quite a few folks who would join me in bidding Selig to kiss our collective asses.

Weigh in: Astros to the AL

So, Selig's trying to strong-arm the Astros into the AL. What's your take?

<<< any way to put this poll atop the perfectly good thread that already exists? sorry for causing clutter; just want to see some numbers. >>>

The Rockets suck ass, too. Your point was? Do you have anything beyond condescending one-liners to add to the conversation?

I stayed up for late games for years when we played the Dodgers, Giants and Padres as part of the NL west, I don't mind that so much as inferior 2 walks and a homerun (X18) 4 hour snoozefests that are the trademark of American league ball.

It would even be worse to be in the AL today than it would be years ago.....cause in the old days at least you might see some great pitchers duels without the managers having to take the SP out to pinch hit. But in this era of pitch counts and LOOGY's the only advantage to playing American league ball is the national media has to pay attention to you when you play their beloved Yankees or Red Sox.

I knew all along this was the main issue with the ownership holdup. I got a little worried we might find some new slime in Crane's kitchen but never believed this wasn't an issue in the process.

Selig knows he is about to lose a loyal solider in Uncle D and wants to do one last power play on the Stros.

This. TBH the move wouldn't really bother me. It is just how they are trying to force it down Crane's throat that ticks me off. It has "Home game against the Cubs in Milwaukee" written all over it again.

If they really want to make baseball purists go nuts, they would set up the schedule like this:

Up the number of games to 165
45 Games- Teams play everyone in the opposite league 3 times each alternating home series every year
60 games- Play each non division team in your league 6 times (1 home series and 1 away)
60 games- Play each divisional team 12 times (2 home; 2 away)

The last thing baseball needs is more games.

Cut the number of games to 120
    30 interleague series
    45 non division
    45 division

6 teams in each league make playoffs. 3 division winners, 3 wild card. Top 2 in each league get first round bye etc..

LOL. So the Rockets have a winning season and you say they suck too? The Assholes, I mean Lastros, I mean Desastros, sorry Astros are currently the worst team in baseball with a record of 48-95. They are well on their way to losing 100+ games with a historically bad season. Don't compare them to the Rockets because unlike the Astros, the Rockets are well managed and are in better shape than your precious Astros.

Are they??? They don't suck ass but they aren't a championship team or even a playoff team right now. That may change once the lockout is done but Morey hasn't been able to deliver as of yet.

Astros are bad...very bad but they FINALLY have a direction and in full rebuild mode. Rockets are in limbo and lack direction...and I know they are young but in a holding pattern without a clear path until Morey finds a superstar.

Stros will probably play 27 west coast games if they move to the AL West, Oakland plays ton of day games and there will probably be about 3 to 5 days games throughout the other cities. I'd say about 20 west coast night games...we played 14 this season. So only about 6 additional night games to worry about...not to bad.

Personally, if I could control the NBA and a time machine I'd have put the Rockets in the Eastern Conference for the past decade.

The Rockets would've been a perenial top 3 seed in the East and likely would've gone to a conference finals or two.

lol @ the Rockets being "well-managed". part ways with one of the best coaches of all time because he doesn't want to play with your slide rule and he couldn't take that chicken**** group of bit players you pulled out of your calculator's ass into a legit contender, while you lean on "Yao and Tracy were hurt" as excuses.

Daryl Morey will win the Sudanese national lottery before he wins anything in the NBA, and the Rockets *do* suck ass.
