Its crazy how much heat Barry takes then compare it McGwire who was celebrated .

Barry was a Hall of Famer before steroids.

Its not fair to compare McGwire to Bonds. Different times.

Barry WAS celebrated when he broke McGwires record. (Not as much, perhaps...but the record had just been broken previously and it wasn't broken in a tight race). And many of us were cheering just as much for Sammy no habla ingles Sosa as the time. Neither corky or creatine-boy are about to break Aarons record.

If McGwire were gunning for the alltime record in todays climate I think we would see much of the same reaction.

    Sorry Nice Rollin,

But your argument of racism towards Bonds really doesn't hold water. People detest Bonds not because he is black but because he is a damn ******* who more than likely used steroids.

Now you want to talk about racism?? Talk to Hank Aaron as he was getting close to breaking Babe Ruth's record. That was someone who was really a victim of racism, not poor widdle Bonds.

So you believe that McGwire would get the same response that Bonds has recieved?

trust me. if McGwire was going after the record, there probably would be some backlash, but nobody would want him dead like some idiots on this board and all over the country for that matter

No because McGwire was NEVER an ******* to the media like Bonds was. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is white and Barry is black; it has to do with the fact that McGwire got along with the media and wasn't the asshat that Barry is.

I will say that there are always going to be ignorant people out there who will be against Bonds because of racist thinking, but to think that the majority of the public is against him because of his skin color is not true. It is because the guy is an ASS!!

actaully mark mcquire was known to be kind of a jerk or at least malcontent during the his chase to break the single season record.

I really don't think its that much about him being an ass. Though it doesn't help.

Lots of people are unresolved about the whole steroids thing.

NR -- by different times, I was meaning the McGwire/Sosa and later Bonds single season record compared to today. Pre and Post Balco scandal.

But we've gone over this before. On topic -- Barry should donate his stuff. Sort of on topic -- Selig should be there and honour the record.

Precisely why he has said having Sammy the Clown along for the ride helped take some of the media pressure off him; said it made more fun what would have otherwise been a miserable experience.

Besides Bud Selig's wavering over whether to attend the record-setting game:

What exactly has "baseball" - i.e. MLB, not the media or the fans - done to Barry Bonds?

I keep hearing this repeatedly, but I really can't think of much.
