If I can pick which movie, then Adam Sandler, some of his earlier work isn't too bad.

If it's a random choice, or solely on new stuff, I pick Tyler Perry, as someone above mentioned

    Good Sandler>Perry>Bad Sandler

I'm not risking it and getting Bucky Larson on the screen.

no question sandler...sandler has really just put it on cruise for awhile now. he knows he can make a movie and people will go and see it. i think thats why he puts all his friends in all his movies. who cares how bad of actors they are, put a bunch of cameos in there, have them do something quirky and boom $$$.

bullet proof is a very underrated film. Loved it back in the day and it's still entertaining.
Better cross dresser in a comedy would have been the funnier thread. Eddie murphy? Martin lawrence? Tyler perry? Adam Sandler? John Leguizamo? Once you cross dress, your career is near the end. **

** Eddie murphy came back from it. Marv ALbert too. And Grandma ma was still doing her thing for a while. So it's not all lost.

    "Why did I get married?"

There's no doubt about the quality of Sandler's work in the mid-late 90's and early part of 00's. I even liked "You don't mess with the Zohan", but he's mailed in a bunch of movies lately.

Tyler Perry has made a lot of bad movies I don't care for(but others do) but to say everything he's made is crap, is silly imo.

Adam Sandler, all day and all night, and this is coming from a black chick who lives in Atlanta.

    Billy Madison
    Happy Gilmore
    The Wedding Singer
    Spanglish
    Anger Management
Punch Drunk Love (his best film, with Spanglish)
I Know Pronounce Larry & Chuck

At worst, none of them were below decent.

The Longest Yard (the original was much better, but the remake had its moments)
    Airheads (was hilarious and underrated)
    Big Daddy (was ok)
    Bulletproof (was ok)
Little Nicky (was mediocre and stupid, but it was entertaining)

The only Tyler Perry movie I remotely liked was Daddy's Little Girls. He has his fan base, and has captured an audience, especially to be one of the richest filmmakers in Hollywood (which says alot).

So you're saying, your life in danger, you'd go watch "Jack and Jill" over Perry's last movie, I think it was one of the "Madea" ones?

Life in danger, I would go watch a movie directed by M.Night Shymalan starring Jamie Kennedy, Fran Dresche, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Steven Seagal, Shaq, Pauly Shore, David Arquette, and any other terrible actress that one can think of, than go watch "Jack and Jill".

That's only one film (most stars have had a flop or two), it's the body of work that counts. For that matter, Sandler has had some very funny movies at times, and even made some good little flicks (I pointed to Spanglish and Punch Drunk Love).

I cannot think of one Tyler Perry movie that was remotely funny beyond a couple seconds, while most of his dramas are melodramatic.

I haven't seen "click" mentioned. I really enjoyed that Adam Sandler movie even though it was more serious.

I haven't seen a single decent Tyler Perry movie or tv-series.

Granted, Adam Sandler's movies haven't been all that great in a pretty good while, but overall I enjoy his a lot more.

If the purpose of the thread is to decide on the basis of their entire work, whose movies you'd give a chance to then yeah obviously everyone would go with Sandler. The body of work speaks for itself.
If the purpose of the thread is to decide on the basis of their last couple of movies(say over the past year or two) then it's not so clear cut.

I know the movies you pointed to. I'm as big a Sandler fan as there is and I think you missed "Funny people" as well. Even "Zohan" gets some love from me. "Jack and Jill" is like five bad movies in one. It affects his body of work immensely imo.

So if we were to go with what they've put out in the past couple of years, I might waver a bit, re. Sandler. If we were to go with the entire body of work then of course, it's no contest.

Sandler without a doubt. Hes made some pretty decent movies, then again hes made some really sh!tty ones too. As far as Tyler Perry the dude has never made anything worth watching, they all seem to be the same thing rehashed over and over.

    In Perry's defense. . . . I would say only maybe 1 to 3 people
in this thread and maybe less than 10 on the whole BBS is in his target demographic

loosely translated. . he isn't trying to do something you like
If one does not like Sandler's style of comedy . . . he could no right in there
    minds either.

So, the choices are "know-your-white-audience" and "know-your-black-audience"?

Both these dudes make horrific movies. Sandler's had a couple that were okay, mainly because he didn't ham it up beyond all belief, and because Drew Barrymore saved "50 Dates".

Tyler Perry is leaves no cliche unturned. Just awful. Just. Awful. That he's the only guy out there making "black movies" doesn't help. Step'n Fetchit is rolling in his grave. Black people = sassy, love-Jesus-but-swear-like-a-sailor, woman-with-3-kids-3-different-daddies, etc. Most of this I gleaned from reading the synopsis next to the 1.5 stars when these come on Uverse, although I did see Diary of a Mad Black Woman, in which the husband physically throws his wife of 18 years out of the mansion whilst moving in the quite-a-bit-whiter girlfriend.

I wonder how Perry judges his work as he's writing it: This'll make'em REALLY yell at the screen.

    Happy Gilmore
    Billy Madison
    Waterboy
    Wedding Singer
    50 First Dates

All are really fun, good to great comedies... for what they are.

But Sandler hasn't done anything even remotely good in awhile.

Tyler Perry has his fan base and I'm not it. So I'll say Sandler appeals to a much wider audience.

I've never seen a Tyler Perry movie but Adam Sandler has quite a few gems mixed in with some crap to average stuff.
