Yeah, I never could quite understand the fascination.

Obviously the players like him. I don't know if they respect him as a former player or if the stars know they can push him around....or both. Or something else.

Ballmer should be like "Okay, we listened to you when you insisted on giving up the farm for Paul George and looked how well that turned out. What makes you so sure Lue is the guy?"

always two ways to look at things. that's one way to view Atkinson. another is that he overachieved each year at a HC and even had a weak nets team in the top 10 in defense this season. as for Kyrie, he's kyrie and didn't want to run sprints.

If that’s the case then welcome to Houston Stephen Silas.

If we get tlue and then get Kevin love, the team is exactly like the previous Miami settings.

Lue and Atkinson are the most proven available. would be happy with either. however it looks like Lue will end up in LA and Atkinson likely in OKC.

warmly welcome Stephen Silas. offensive guru at 1/10th the price of bringing MDA back. if he makes any in game adjustments he'll be better than MDA.

now can we get a defensive assistant to join him?

    Silas learned under

    Paul Silas
    Don Nelson
    Steve Kerr
    Rick Carlisle
    Steve Clifford

Worked with stars very early on

    Lebron
    Curry

he was out of GS well before Kerr was there. just there under nelson. however, nelson's 5-out small ball was revolutionary at the time when they upset the #1 seed mavs as the 8th seed.

Carlisle was just this 1 year... you can assume he learned something from such a great coach, but I don't think after 17 years this lone season was very formative for Silas. instead of coming in as a mentee to Carlisle, he used this season to flex his offensive prowess. he ran the mavs offense into the record books as the #1 ever.

what's interesting here is the parallel's between nelson's warriors offense and what Morey wants to do. more parallels between how Silas ran the best offense ever around Luka who many compare to harden. I think he can step right in and replace MDA.

the promising thing on his resume is the time spent (most of his career) assisting his dad who was a very good defensive coach. and of course a short time with Clifford who is also known for his defense being from the JVG tree.

Where was Kerr? He was out of GSW before Mark Jackson came in.

    yes 2018 to now.

still my point about him not really being mentored by Carlisle remains. Silas had 15 years of experience when he went to Dallas. I think he was brought in to run the offense, not to be developed but to produce.

that being said I'm sure he picked up some things from Carlisle. hopefully some game management.
