I'm not talking about the availability of players, I was responding to your "misconceptions" and telling you they aren't misconceptions at all. Its common sense! If 8 of the ten players playing on the court have equal skils, but team 1 has a player which is an 8, but team 2 has a player which is a 9, who do you think will win?

I said its possible to win with Bosh as a max guy, but the surrounding players would have to be better than the cast of LBJ or DH/Durant/Wade/CP3. If they're equal then LBJ or whoever's team will win 8 times out of 10.

As far as Bosh being the best FA since Mac, I won't deny that. However that wasn't in the topic of your post, in fact you said in your OP that you aren't trying to make a "Bosh" thread but to correct misconceptions which you can see people have in general. Why you're suddenly spouting about Bosh being the best FA or if I'm in favor of tanking, I have no idea.

Again I'm not talking about your post in relation to Bosh, because you said you weren't trying to talk about Bosh in particular. Your misconception was that "You should never overpay for a player". Its not a misconception its the truth, you really should never overpay for a player! Even if its just one player, that one player can hamstring your team depending on the amount you signed him to. For example we signed just two guys, Yao and Mac, and look where it got us.

Just because Bosh is a star doesn't mean you give up the core of the team for him just like that. You have to weigh it carefully on several factors including Bosh's cost, his health and what he'll cost to trade for. As for your claim that underpaid players don't win championships I definitely disagree.

Duncan, Shaq, Kobe and even Dream were definitely underpaid when they won the championship. The max doesn't justify Duncan or Kobe or Shaq or Dream's performance during the playoffs, they definitely deserve more than that considering the load they carried.

So you're saying if player A deserves the max, player B deserves 1.5 the max, then player A doesn't truly deserves the max because he's obviously inferior to player B? That's common sense!? That was my entire first point. So I guess I'm lacking in the common sense department.

If you had to choose between having that "8" player, and being stuck with only "5" players because you think that "8" doesn't deserve the max that he actually commands, you'd choose to forgo that "8" player because 9s and 10s are also making the same?

Because in your above ranking system, the 9s and 10s would never change their addresses to Houston. So they're never available. You draft them or you don't get them. They're worthless to the discussion. The only thing that matters is whether Bosh is worth the max. Not if he's clearly inferior to Lebron or Wade.

I don't know, 5 years of 50+ wins. You really thought were couldn't bust through the first round because T-Mac or Yao sucked? And not because of our god awful role players. Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis are in the ECFs. Gasol and Odom are in the WCFs. Btw. I don't see LA and Orlando complaining about their overpaid players.

I'm not a huge fan of acquiring Bosh for this Rockets' team. Last year, the Rockets were 8th in offense and 22nd in defense. They need to get better defensively if they want to compete with the NBA elite.

Out of the top 15 defensive teams for '09-'10 14 made the playoffs. The two exceptions were Phoenix and Denver. Phoenix, of course, being the leagues best offensive team.

Scola gives us a good power forward already. The upgrade just isn't that much. Bosh despite his athleticism is non-existent in block %. He's 10th in DReb% but Scola is 17th.

Unfortunately, I think this Rockets' team is pretty far away from the top. The only move that I could see making a huge difference would be something like D. Wade to the Rockets. He's good on both ends of the floor and a physical takeover player in an area where it's desperately needed - the backcourt.

How does a guy taking an inadvertant elbow to the face, in any way, have any bearing on his play here?

This is sports, and entertainment; not investing your 401K. It's about passion and excitement, exhilarating victory and crushing defeat. You diversify and hedge in real life because maintaining a level of average is good. But sports is where you go ALL IN.

I think even a bond trader realizes that.
