    will get her roses.
we normally don't go out on that day due to the craziness of restaurants.
Her dad will be in town that week so that gets me off the hook of having to do anything but flowers

I'm lucky. Mine will be out of the country. I don't have to do squat!

I'm giving her Valentine's gift a little early. Three nights in a cabin outside of Fredericksburg this weekend with a shower built for two, a big marble tub built for two, a living room with a fire in the fireplace, a big TV with surround sound and satellite, a kitchen with a Jenn-Air stove for steaks (which we probably won't use), a fridge full of breakfast stuff, including farm-fresh eggs, German pastries from town, a veranda looking out on an idyllic setting, with peacocks, cute sheep, and deer wandering around. A really cool pad. Oh, almost forgot... it has a huge hot tub outside, surrounded by a high stucco wall and a wooden gate. In short, paradise. ;)

I'm the girl, so I don't have to get him anything... that's his job, right?

I guess I should do a little something, though. :) Let's see, what is it, a Thursday? Which means I have class and/or the Texas Music Educators convention all day until midafternoon, then have to work until 9:30. I get the feeling it's not going to be very romantic - can't be. Maybe I can take him to lunch downtown if he's at the convention with me.

And I already got him one of the cute stuffed roses, to keep up our tradition. That was a little early though.

That's right, but your day to 'give' comes a month later on March 14th -- on Steak and a BJ Day.

As for me, I'm getting married that weekend. I would think that would take care of any V-day obligations on my part...

This far into the thread with no
    d*ck-in-a-box joke?

Nothing. The wife and I don't celebrate Hallmark Holidays.

There's a Will Ferrell/Rachel Dratch skit in there somewhere...

Sounds like the Welleshly Arms Hotel. Will you be ordering up some spiced meats by the fireplace?

Funny, that's always who I picture when I read a Deckard post having to do with this topic.

I was thinking a nice can of albacore tuna and maybe a non-generic Roll of toilet paper.

    Kidding.

I don't have a honey. :( Oh wait, chocolate will be my honey. :D

She hasn't told me what I'm getting her yet.

I hate Valentine's day, by the way. It's the worst of the 'commercial holidays' I don't need an excuse to get something nice for my wife.

They don't celebrate Valentine's Day in Sweden so my wife thinks it's ridiculous. I still try to do something though.

I'm pretty luck in that my wife would rather do things for me on that day since it's my birthday. Of course, I always do something for her but I don't feel that pressured to have to do anything extravagant.

Quick tip for those struggling for ideas:

    1) Go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby
    2) Buy some fake flowers (preferably some of her favorites and make sure they look halfway decent, not the cheap looking ones)
    3) Buy something like a basket or one of those wicker shape thingies (heart, wreath, etc).
    4) Just start sticking the flowers into whatever you bought, cut stems as needed. You might need some thin wiring to tie the flowers on so they don't fall off especially if you are sticking them into the front of a heart, etc.

Bingo! You have an easy gift that she will love because you made it and she thinks you put some real thought into. I've done this type of thing a couple of times and my wife loves them, especially since she can hang them around the house to show off to her girlfriends ("See what HE did for me. "Ah, i wish my husband/boyfriend would do that for me"). The best thing is that I spent a fraction of what I would have buying all the roses, chocolates, etc and they took me all of 10-15 minutes to put together.

I remember last year though, I came home from work and she was wearing nothing but a Rockets Xmas tree skirt she made for my Rockets Xmas tree I have for the gameroom.

Wife's birthday is the next day, so I usually don't do much for valentines. I'll make sure we have a good meal, most likely sushi.

I'll avoid the crowds. I'll have a glass of wine at home and make her dinner.

Well there's this movie with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey or however you spell his name that has "CLASSIC CHICK FLICK" written all over it. So, I'll have to take her to that (which may actually be the Friday before V-Day). Plus I'll get her flowers and probably take her out to eat either that day or the day after. I'm also doing something very important for her and for me (for that matter) tomorrow. I'll also have to get some candy and maybe a stuffed animal for my daughter.
