OK, so if Les said he doesn't care about a couple million extra in luxury tax, and Wafer said he's fine with a 2 year deal with the second year a team option (in other words, he wouldn't affect us being over/under the cap next year), then there's no reason at all not to sign him right? I keep asking this question, but I never seem to get a real straight answer. It's like people don't want to contemplate the idea of resigning Wafer until Morey gives them permission to do so.
I think they're right at 3.5 mil over the LT right now. That's Cook's contract figure. Barry's cap figure is 2.1. If they sign Chase to the same cap number as Taylor, and dump both Cook and Barry to someone, that leaves them 1.3 or 1.4 under the LT. A 1.1 mil or 1.2 mil deal for Von would be fine in that scenario, but not 1.5. Anyway, the Olympiacos thing kills any idea of that working out.
Agreed, I am waiting on a legitimate news source to say that, the link could be fake, their news reports are akin to the Sina ones...as in.....not very accurate. DD
I think its a bad translation- http://translate.google.com/transla...gr/article/189293&sl=el&tl=en&history_state0= I heard tht source is like the Greek ESPN. Apparently they are getting Kleiza also to complement Goufier.
So is "The Goofer" in the translation Wafer? Cause that's a nickname we should have capitalized on a long time ago!
I highly doubt that Les would pay the luxury tax for Von Wafer. Like Morey stated, he is content with the current roster and that we are in patient mode. It's all about the available free agents next year. Of course, this is assuming that we dont take on long-term contracts for Mcgrady.
If it's the difference between being over the luxury tax line and being under it, then there's more to it than just the luxury tax itself. Any team over the line by even a small amount forfeits its rights to the shared league revenue. I can't remember the specifics, but I think it's quite a substantial amount.
I really wanted Von Wafer to return! What am I suppose to do with my Nilla Wafer box I remade into a Von Wafer box? I've got to discard that box along with the autographed Artest Rockets' jersey! Its hard being a die hard fan!
Well, you are assuming, as DaDakota is, that the cap isn't an issue. Morey and Les might disagree. You are also asking the wrong people. None of us are privy to the thoughts of the inner circle of the Rockets. All we can do is speculate. Sure, that and arguing about our speculation is a huge part of being here, but that doesn't change the fact that none of us can state with any certainty just what's going on within the brain trust of the Rockets regarding Wafer.
So in the end Von got no solid offers from NBA teams? Seems like many people really overestimated his value.
Actually, he should probably thank his agent, who found him $5.5 million euros in a down global economy. For a player the caliber of Von Wafer, that is a LOT of money.
True, he got overpaid, but he won't live up to the money.......International competition is gonna wear him out
He is not overpaid. He is a decent talent that is a good scorer. Maybe being over there will help him grow a bit more and he can comeback to the NBA.
I think you'll find Von will get found out in Euroleague. It's much more about technique and not about athleticism, which is mainly what Von uses. There will be 50 guys like Vujacic who will shut him down over there and expose his lack of handles. I was a big Wafer fan, but I think he's making a bad move. He should have taken a smaller contract in the NBA.
