Ummm...do you actually think that 200k per year or a roughly 25% raise is not worth it? I mean HONESTLY? I think he signs for between 1.1 and 1.3m.......and I think it is 50/50 it is here. DD
Why is it that Von has not been able to really catch on with an NBA team? Drafted in 2005 by the Lakers. Played in one pre-season game before being waived by the Lakers in October 2006. Played that season in the D-League. Signed February 21, 2007 by the Clippers. Waived a week later. Signed by Denver for rest of season. February 21, 2008 he was traded by Denver to Portland. Then he signed with the Rox. If he was so good, why has he never caught on?
I think you have it right. First rounders are guaranteed and are seperate from the MLE I think.... I would like to have the exact number because we still need a scoring 2-guard. Nate Robinson? Rashad McCants? Allen Iverson?
Attitude, he needs to pull that together first... The good thing is that he has youth and potential on his side...
Ok, the last time I will answer this. He was 19 years old, very young, very raw.....but he DID catch on with an NBA team...the ROCKETS last year. Sometimes it takes a player a while to hone his game, why are people so excited or confident James White can replace him? That guy is 26 and in the same boat as Von, only different in that Von proved himself in the NBA last season. Does it really matter to you that he was released by numerous teams? I mean Mario Elie was bounced around too, and brought in from the CBA......he ended up being ok. Von is younger than Landry and Brooks, and is up and coming, is he a finished product? NO, of course not, but if you can get a guy that is a microwave scoring guard off the bench that can: 1. Attack the basket 2. Shoot the 3ball 3. Hit the midrange 4. Run the fast break 5. Score efficiently Then you take the shot...it is a MUCH BETTER RISK than signing has beens like Steve Francis, Mike James, or Brent Barry..... Especially this year. At least that is how I see it. DD
He is not half the basketball player but they are both elite athletes, or Tmac was...and Von still is.... DD
Exactly. Not sure where his logic is with that type of bold statement. Ariza is more athletic also and I consider him to be sg/sf. Heck, even Gerald Green is more athletic than Wafer. And yes Dada, I think Wafer is athletic..just not as much as you think.
Maybe it's because he didn't play as well for those other teams as he played for us last season? I don't get it. You bring in a new player, he performs better than he ever has before, and then you ignore his improved performance and say "Well, there must be a reason those other teams let him go, I guess we'll do the same." I really really don't get it.
You know i agree with you man. Everyone is talking about where our scoring is going to come from and Von has proven to be a scorer. I hate seeing him leave i only wish he wouldn't have blown up in the playoffs at the coach.
When T-Mac joined the Rockets his first step was faster than Wafer's IMO. Besides, I do not think that Wafer now is NEAR the athlete that T-Mac was when he joined the Rockets. His size, speed, strength, coordination and leaping ability were very elite
Bingo. People forget how dominant T-Mac was back in 04-05. Unfortunately, the rest of our team was weak overall.
Who gives a darn, this is not a thread about Tmac...... Everyone agrees that: A. Tmac was an elite athlete B. Tmac was/is better than Von C. This thread is not about either of those topics. IMO, this is about asset management, and I think Morey is waiting for the market to set a price. All this garbage about his attitude etc is considered, but at the end of the day, it is about winning and Von helps you do that...he adds another dimension to the team. If the price is right, I fully expect the Rockets to get him. DD
Has Wafer signed with Olympiacos? There's a thread in NBA Dish with a link to a Turkish article claiming he signed for 2 years and $7,793,500. I'll wait to see a credible source report it, but what a surprise if it's true!
DD, a huge part of the problem with signing Von is that we're over the cap. For Les, that means if we sign Wafer for, let's say, $1.5 million per year, it's costing Les $3 million. And if that $1.5 million ends up being the difference between being over or under the cap, it's potentially a lot more. If this was just apples and oranges, it wouldn't matter. It's an entire basket of fruit. (and Coach A might think this piece is rotten!)
Nah, I don't think that is an issue at all, last year they were over the cap and they got under it in time, I think the same thing is available this year...Memphis will happily take back an expiring contract and cash to get us under the cap. Their owner loves that.... Les spending about $5 million on 3 second round picks shows that he is not afraid of spending, but not going over the Lux tax... I think they can easily get under it...look at Cook and Barry, they could do that deal today.....if they needed to eliminate salary. DD
