Here's another interesting little bit of information, courtesy of one of the websites in durvasa's sig. Houston Rockets leaders in adjusted plus/minus for 2008/2009 Yao: +7.46 Wafer: +6.43 Artest: +5.53 Battier: +3.09 Remember, plus/minus DOES NOT take into account things like points, rebounds, assists, etc. It's simply the number of points scored by your team with you on the court, compared to the number of points given up by your team with you on the court. But yeah, only a boxscore-obsessed idiot would think Wafer is a decent overall player who contributed just as much last year as Battier...
never did I call you an idiot... Shane is simply worth more to this team than Von. If you were a gm, I would take Shane and let you have Von. Just like all of the other gm's in this league. If you look at the link you just provided, Shane has a "simple overall rating" of 6.47 while Von has a rating of 4.39. And those numbers are not adjusted...
I read your article; you seem to think you have this all under wraps and that we shouldn't bother debating with it. I feel like I could copy and paste my responses from previous Battier threads to address this. Just because Gay is valuable to Memphis doesn't mean he would've followed the same road here. One thing you need to understand is that Battier and Gay have different ROLES. GM was following what was best on paper. Sacrificing Gay for Battier was the same idea as Greene for Artest. Win now. Guess what? We didn't win.... WHY didn't we win? Injuries.... not Shane Battier. We will always have these 'coulda shoulda wouldas" because of our injuries, but don't act like you're so sure. Was it a good move? Now, no. At the time, it was a gamble, and a relatively even trade. Once again you seem to hold your own opinion in very high esteem. Good for you. In the past there have been numerous numerical breakdowns of how Battier fared against Kobe - they didn't prove much. Battier didn't have much effect on Kobe's shot percentage or point totals. What DID Battier's defense do? It adjusted LA's game plan and forced Kobe into taking shots that he wouldn't normally take. That's fine for him, he's good enough that he made them... BUT it made LA work harder on their plays; making their supporting cast take awkward shots out of rhythm when Kobe had to dish. I saw Fisher, Walton, Vujacic, Odom make plenty of bonehead decisions and ugly misses when Shane & co. forced the ball to move in a way that LA wasn't comfortable with. Oh, he also held Kobe to the least free-throws per-game in the playoffs of each of the 4 teams that faced him, and half the free throws that Denver did. If I remember correctly, there was one game without free-throws entirely for Kobe. You're not going to shut out a superstar, but you can agitate him and change the offensive flow. If you think Shane wasn't in Kobe's head you must have missed all of those fugly faces and weak trash talk that Kobe couldn't stop doing.
The odds are not in favor of any of those second round guys being able to step in and replace the production Wafer gave. People act like two guards like him grow on trees but they don't and certainly not at the price he could be had for. This team is so low on offensive talent right now I can't understand why they don't a spend a few million on a guy who proved himself last season.
Agree with you 100%. Most fans just see the exciting plays and buckets. They don't see the whole game.
Free agent guard Von Wafer has a deal in place to join Olympiacos, two sources told HoopsHype.com The deal is for two years and $4.2 million without taxes.
Good for him. He wasn't going to get that money here in the NBA... Extremely obvious he wasn't getting anything in the NBA above minimum. So, DaDa and Bob, you going to be ok?
If and when Von learns to play tough D consistently and not let players like 0 for 3 million Vujachick get in his head then I will say Morey made a mistake. He's going to be worse off on a clippers team that lacks direction and respect for Dunleavy. We had Shane and Artest to keep him in check. The clippers have no one.
I definitely hope the Rockets can somehow keep Von. He provided a spark we haven't had in years, the Von-Hawk.. gave this team a youthful like swagger. If not hope he finds a home and stays there for a few seasons. I'm sure there is more to it than the altercation with Adelman.
Nice contract for Von if it's true. They'll enjoy his above the rim style of play over in Europe, he made me jump out of my chair more than a few times with some of his dunks.
If no one in the league would offer him that much, I'm strongly leaning towards the "we don't know everything" theory.
I thought someone here said hoopshype was like the Star Magazine of the NBA, they don't always tell the truth. Whatever happens with Von, he did do a great job when he was here. I wish only good luck to him
Hey that is selective picking there !!!! I liked Yao too, and Shane, and others...but mostly I latch onto guys that might help in the future, I like to watch them develop. Langhi was a summer league crush for me that really stunk in the NBA....he was a great college player but never got his confidence in the NBA....it makes me worry about bit about Taylor because of his struggles in the SL... But, Chase....maybe I need to text him about tapping? DD
Real men confident in their masculinaty don't need to tell others, it is simply understood..... Precisely my point....and why I like Chase's game but I don't know how well it translates against NBA competition. DD
