How is Chuck Hayes able to defend against other centers?

Why is it funny? I wouldn't do the trade but Kirk Hinrich can absolutely guard shooting guards. Anyone that saw him completely shut down a 6'7, 240 pound Paul Peirce with single coverage for full quarter stretches in the playoffs can attest to this. And of course, he has the quickness to guard the smaller wings.

I don't ascribe to the conventional wisdom on this board that Kirk Hinrich is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but his defensive capabilities, when healthy, aren't really in question. He's one of the best in the league in that department.

I never said they made the playoffs because of Hinrich. No one is arguing Hinrich will be Houston's saviour. That said right now, Hinrich's D > Rose's D.

Since in the proposed trade we are giving up Battier for him, that's who I'll compare him to. I'd say Hinrich is the better ball handler and play maker, and he can be Brooks' Eric Snow. Battier's D while elite is somewhat redundant with Ariza and Hinrich provides a different defensive option as he can guard smaller quicker guards. Their shooting percentages are remarkably similar, except Hinrich takes more shots and scores more.

Wanted to add that I'm defending Battier in another thread just a few threads below this one, and I value Battier's contributions to this team more than some other posters. I just think with Ariza and Brooks, Hinrich is a very good fit for the Rockets, but I doubt Chicago does that trade now because they've lost Gordan. I think the original twitter trade is more realistic if a bit more value comes Houston's way. Perhaps something like Chicago sends Utah a heavily protected 1st round pick and Houston has the option of swapping its 2010 pick for Utah's NY pick.

The only way I'd ok this trade is if we get Utah first rounder from New York

This whole episode reminds me of that fiasco from Jeff's first year when some Boston radio station was reporting that the Rockets and Celtics were close to completing a deal that would exhange (the then mysteriously AWOL) Eddie Griffin and Cuttino Mobley for some horrendous package like Tony Battie and George Lynch or some other hard-working scrub. The board went ape***** and rightfully so.

I'm a huge JVG guy, but I'll admit, for a time, my single greatest fear in life was waking up and finding out that the team had traded Steve Francis .50 cents on the dollar for hardworking defensive scrubs. I think you can thus understand why reeling in a 25 year old Tracy McGrady was one of the most exciting moments for me in my sports-viewing life.

There aren't that many 6'8" guards. Ariza should be guarding those guys. Hinrich would guard the smaller quicker guards. The are more guards around 6'3" than 6'8".

because I have been told that it isn't true. And one of the local sports reporters, Nuno, also commented that there is no truth to this rumor.

I understand it's the offseason and you guys like to talk about what ifs. But this what if just ain't happening.

And tell me the last time a rumored trade happened where the bbs caught wind of it before it was announced. Daryl is very secretive in his trades. One idea will be floating out there and then something else actually happens. See Iverson trade talk last year right before the Artest trade.

All of Morey's trades come out of left field and are ones that we aren't expecting or have talked about. The guy is unpredictable and this just doesn't smell like a Morey trade.

I'm joining this thread late but I have to say I want nothing to do with with Tyrus Thomas. I'm trading Battier for some dude with similar stats but almost negative intangibles. Thomas has no upside or he would have shown some improvement by now. He is Stro Swift part 2.

Here I go with another "wouldn't it make more sense?" threads.

At one point (at least), wasn't Phoenix looking into acquiring Tyrus Thomas in exchange for Stoudemire? If so, I suppose they could have worked a straight two-way swap, but maybe the numbers and personnel didn't cut it, what with Phoenix bleeding cash.

Maybe the rest of the deal is real, where you cut Utah out (Shane and Landry to Chicago, we keep James' expiring) plus flip Tyrus Thomas and add McGrady and Taylor for Stoudemire and Richardson or something along those lines?

I'm sorry this thread has devolved into a trade scenario thing, because I'm sure Adelman could reach Tyrus Thomas if need be, but despite his skills, he seems what Phoenix has coveted, and would benefit from Steve Nash's pinpoint passes.

Still, you never know when this thread is going to get locked, so gotta post what I can when I can.

ROXTXIA: The reason Chicago would want to do this trade is to get Boozer... your proposal doesn't make more sense...

I think the 3 team trade is a smoke screen involving a 3 way trade involving Shane Battier and Carlos Boozer because the Houston Rockets would be giving up a lot but do not get that much in return.

This is purely speculation from my point, but I was thinking the 3rd team to be PORTLAND. Since they do not have any major catch in the free agency and also it makes a lot more sense for the 3 teams to trade.

    Here's the scenario:

Houston gets: Rudy Fernandez, Joel Pryzbilla
    Houston gives: Shane Battier

    Portland gets: Carlos Boozer
Portland gives: Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw, Joel Pryzbilla

Utah gets: Shane Battier, Travis Outlaw
    Utah gives: Carlos Boozer

... and where would Boozer play? No way he goes into Portland backing up Lamarcus Aldridge.
