I don't get why someone would 'hate' Twitter. It's a tool. It's like saying I hate forks. It's the same type of people who said they hated 'the internets' 10-15 years ago.
I think it's amazing we've entered an age where people posting on the internet think that a particular facet of the internet is bizarre. 15 years ago I remember even just playing a computer game seemed dorky or weird by the older generation. Even as late as high school (7 years ago) only a tenth of my friends used an instant messager, and even less something rudimentary like e-mail. And I'm only 25, but I thought being raised in the digital age would make me always appreciate the cutting edge of technology and the social aspects of computers and whatnot but even I find myself thinking this twitter phenomenon is strange. It makes me wonder where all of this is headed, and if it will be the connected information-sharing utopia I always wished we were all headed towards.
Twitter does seem pretty f-ing r****ded. I'm all for tech, but damn. What happened to people connecting? I guess the biggest thing about this story is that while everything was going on, she was concerned with Twitter. Either she's got her priorities jacked or its become so ingrained in people that that's the first thought or reaction. I brought this up in the Chris Henry thread. Its just weird how important that dumb @ss site is to people. As for the poster comparing a site to the whole internet, thats a bit of a stretch. In time, it will go the way of myspace. It is a weird time to be living in. There is so much that is new and not a whole lot of etiquitte on these things. Its like going to eat with people, at any given time they start breaking out their phones and texting away. I find that so rude. Its like the more we get connected, the more we're disconnected. And yet here we are posting in a net forum. This new networking is ok, but should be tempered. Just my $0.02. Sorry for the rant, I've thought about some of this for some time. And just so I'm not a hypocrite, I'll vent to my friends in the outernet as well.
Yup. Part of it is, like most things, once it gets popular a switch turns on in some people. In any case, I don't do any 'tweeting', but I found it quite useful when you sign up for something you are interested in getting updates about. For example, I 'follow' several twitters that track sales on Amazon, for stuff like Blu Rays and DVDs. Very helpful.
You don't understand her at all. I don't understand you at all, brain shutting down at a moment like that. It doesn't mean you're wrong. People react differently, like you said. Why is it so hard to understand that she's different from you, and you're different from me?
