I just got into twitter, and I really like it. I don't usually ever update my status or anything like that (like once every several days), but I can have all Houston Rockets related news, world news and other miscellaneous news messaged straight to my phone. I choose whatever I want to look at, and discard what is of no interest to me. I use it moreso for the breaking news than following peoples' statuses.
Are you sure there are no sidekick apps? As for getting tweets sent to your phone, without an app I would say only choose people you really want to hear from. I personally only do twitter at a computer... because my phone stinks and I only get 500 txts a month.
No, I'm sure there aren't any. Yeah, I see what you mean...I have unlimited texts though. I don't use a computer after work or on the weekends so it would be cool if I got specific texts to my phone. I'm gonna see how that will work. Any interesting twitters? So far, I only have NBA on TNT, The_Real_Shaq, NBA, CNN and OfficialRockets. Post your twitter if you want!
add Clutch - @clutchfans Jason Friedman - @RocketsJCF and Houston Press - @bendubois (I hope I spelled that one right) You can add me @spygrl - though I will admit many of my tweets are pop culture stuff.. tv shows and the like (though I do a lot of NBA tweets as well) ummm I also have the blazers guys.. @PDXBlazersFTW and @blazersedge Then I have @thenolookpass @jeskeets and @espn for news I have @breakingnews @cnn and @andersoncooper I also have the 1560 ones @the_pollo_loco is Raheel - he's most active, can't remember the rest of them. That should get you a good start... then go to their friends or people they follow and see if there are others you want to watch.

I signed up for this a couple of weeks ago. I still don't get it. Facebook just seems a hell of a lot easier to find people.

I don't know if they're really supposed to rival/compete with each other. I see Twitter more as a news "update" site, and you choose who you want to stay updated with on a frequent basis. I only subscribe to sports info right now, like Clutchfans and an ESPN AFC south blog. I suppose if you were just using it for your personal friends it would be the same as facebook. Just depends on how you use it.
Those of you who I actually plan on following maybe, I've already added, and you can just add me if you want. All others, uh, if you can find me, follow me
