Is it reckless to read too much into the fact that we were granted the first presentation-- determined I'm sure by Bosh's camp when no one else will barely even consider us as viable candidates for his services. Seems like a big deal to me-- a darkhorse going first.
This is true which is why I think we have a pretty good chance at getting him. If we offer, say at worse, Brooks, Hill, and fillers. We are still a pretty damn good team. Supposedly, Toronto does not want Deng, Beasley or Chalmers. So I dont know. Its going to be a fun and interesting week.
If we could get another primo player to pair with Bosh coming to Houston, I think he'd come. For instance, if Toronto would be interested in Emeka Okafor and New Orleans would turn loose of Chris Paul with Okafor, and we could flip Okafor to Toronto along with some combo of Ariza, Brooks, Hill or an expiring and a pick, for a re-signed Bosh, that would leave us with Paul, Yao, and Bosh as our big 3, along with Martin as #4. I don't see how Bosh wouldn't view that as a long term, multiple championship winning team. Three things are necessary: 1. Toronto has to desire Okafor as a legit center to give them interior defense. (Questionable. Although he makes sense for them.) 2. New Orleans has to be winning to give up Paul to shed salary. (Rumor already reported that they were prepared to do some sort of deal with Orlando that was essentially a salary dump.) 3. Bosh has to see himself in combo with Yao, Paul, Martin, and whoever else as a championship team. Another possibility: Al Jefferson Would Toronto be interested in taking back Jefferson as part of a S&T for Bosh to give them a big low post offensive presence that can score in the block and rebound and board? Don't know. Nobody seems to want big Al. But he's another big that makes sense for Toronto if they are going to lose Bosh. So, if Minny really wants to unload his salary, they have to give up Rubio. Of course, this is a year delayed gratification with Rubio. But both Jefferson and Rubio are losing value daily. Since Jefferson is requesting a trade, his value has just plummeted even further. So, same scenario as before except Minny could possibly have to package Rubio with Jefferson to get Jefferson out of town. In that deal, we could wind up with Bosh, rights to Rubio, and still enough pieces left over to go after another superstar. The other scenario that I could see possibly unfolding is Bosh and Lebron together in Houston. As I stated earlier in another thread, we have all the expiring contracts and talent to do two sign and trades for maximum contracts without giving up Yao and Martin and likely still have at least one of Scola or Lowry left to play with the rest of those guys. If these Bosh and Lebron really want to win multiple championships, and they are willing to mesh their egos, then the BEST PLACE to do it is in Houston, not in Miami or Chicago. Because we will still have players left that can be super pieces on a championship team. And a core of Lebron/Yao/Bosh/Martin trumps a core of Lebron/Bosh/Rose/Noah. There is 3 scenarios that could possibly develop. What else is out there?
That's not how it works. A sign and trade is a simultaneous action. As soon as he's signed, he's traded. Toronto can opt to not do a sign and trade but they can't sign him and then look for the best deal. Bosh would tell them where he wants to go and ask the Raptors if they'll be willing to do a S&T. The Raptors then work out a deal with the team of Bosh's choice and then they do the S&T. Reportedly, Toronto already has the basic structure of S&T deals worked out with several teams including the Rockets.
I understand how it works.....you misunderstood what I was saying. Once Bosh made it clear (as he did last night) that he wants a max contract, then its up to Toronto to make a deal with one of the teams that Bosh would consider playing for...otherwise Bosh doesnt sign the contract and trigger the deal...otherwise, Bosh doesnt get his max deal
Per Ric Bucher on ESPN just now..it's a 2 team race between Chicago and Miami for Bosh. I can see the Rockets being used in their courting of Bosh only to lose out on both Bosh and Stoudamire to the Mavs.
If we take a run at all the worth-while FAs, and get one of those, I'll be pretty happy. By "worth-while," I see Rudy Gay as the cutoff point - inclusive or not.
while Mia and Chic may be Bosh's first choices, if he wants the max, he may not be able to have his cake and eat it too
Well Chris did tweet that he's interested in what Miami has top offer in their meeting. So maybe that's his preference.
Is Miami's offer/proposal still that Bosh not sign for the max and they get 8-10 guys at the minimum?
Eh, there's two ways of looking at it. You could see it the way you are, sure. The Rockets were granted access to Bosh himself at 12:01, before ANYBODY else. However, it could also be viewed that he's just letting the teams that he's not really considering have their crack at him before the weekend so that he can really focus on the big dogs when he makes his trip to Chicago. Usually, though, the most important presentations are first, and last, so, here's to holding out hope that Morey had his affect.
