One "version" of events that I saw on this documentary did indeed have the jet being shot down by US military, but it was an errant shot meant ot knock out the Piper Cub that was on a colllission course with the jet. Curious.
That is the version I believe in as well - and I am not a conspiracy theorist. It was just the way the investigation was conducted/not conducted that leads me to believe this.
I read a good amount about TWA 800 at the time it happened and thing that really made me feel it was a missile was the number of witnesses that "saw a missile streak across the sky and hit the plane causing an explosion". A leaking (flaming) fuel tank does not look like a single missile streak. However like everything else until I see definitive proof one way or the other I will remain undecided. If I were a betting man I would put my money on terrorists firing a stinger missile and a resulting cover-up ~ which in this case is really for the best. Btw - plenty of terrorist groups claimed responsibility.
lost, did a little more poking around, I stand corrected. Not sure how feasible it would be to keep everyone involved in the act/coverup - hundreds of people - quiet for close to a decade.
If a terrorist used a stinger to shoot it down, don't you (same) conspiracy theorists think the government would publicize this to further crackdown on 'x' innocents?
