Pilot episode was last night. All I can really say is FX does it again. What appears as a typical American couple living in suburban Washington D.C. in the early 1980's is really 2 KGB spies. I thought it started off really well and it should be another home run for FX.
Keri Russell was very impressive, didn't think she could pull off that kind of character. Just hope the whole series isn't about a bunch of near misses, like the ending last night with the FBI agent.
Is the show good? I want to know what viewers or critics think of the show to see if its worth watching. One thing I love about about FX is that it comes out with new creative tv shows like AHS, It's always sunny in philadelphia, Justified and many others. Unlike other networks like NBC, CBS, ABC who use the same cookie cutter approach.
Critics are idiots, but since you asked http://www.metacritic.com/tv/the-americans 78 out of 100, which is good.
Just curious if they are running an encore showing of this like they did with The Following? I wanted to watch but forgot it was on.
Damn good show. Sex, violence, espionage, relationship issues, parenting issues, internal issues, tense moments, flashbacks, 1980's period piece, historical fiction mixed in with real events. The characters are smart and the writing is good. I hope it maintains this level of quality.
DVRed it but for some reason I wasn't too excited about it, even though it looks like a good story and all. Maybe it's because i've seen Little Nikita.
Watched it last night. I thought it was great. The wife liked it but not as much as me. Will keep watching.
Spoiler Thought it was a little cheesy, but it's a pilot. One part, they're in the FBI or CIA or whatever and one guy is like, "hey bro, these Russians living in America, it's all hog wash, they're not allowed to speak Russian once they get off the plane, yada, yada, etc.. there's just no way brooo" -- as if not speaking Russian is some kind of inconceivable notion. Then they change license plates, like oooh, this is clever, we'll really show the audience how clever we are. Eh, kind of a pee-pee game scene to me. Again, it's just a pilot.
Could the setting have anything to do with it? Maybe they weren't doing those kind of things in the 80s yet. A criminal changing a license plate or a Russian speaking perfect English was ground groundbreaking. Look how happy Keri and the other guy were when they came to America and saw an air conditioner. I thought it was well done! A lot of my shows have been canceled so I'll be picking this one up.
i love it, the opening scene was great and the relationship conflict between them was great, only shortcoming fleetwood mac stuck in my head
