Depending on size of tv, it might be more cost effective to just to buy a new tv as the prices of these things have dropped considerably over the years. Sell your broken tv to reconcile the price difference.

Can't you buy a new Samsung 50 inch UHD for $800 (or around that) these days? It may be last year's model, though. Rip-off alert!

"Houston" doesn't necessarily narrow things down.

This. Getting repaired isn't guaranteed to work for the life of what it usually would. Spend the extra cash and just get an new unit.

The same people who buy used hair gel. Actually on Ebay, there is a whole market for broken electronic equipment. People who know how to fix up such products buy them up and repair them and then sell at profit.
