I just found a new obsession on the history channel a couple of guys at a small company called Antique Archeology go around to rural america hunting through barns and old collections meeting people and buying their junk and turning a profit. It is really cool, I love this stuff. Anyone else watching? DD
No. My wife and I like to go to estate sales. If they are in some of the older, classic Austin neighborhoods, you can find some really cool stuff.
You would love this show, they primarily talk to old folks, who have been collecting for years. They just got a Vespa Aupi, pretty much the only one like it in North America. Guy paid like 5k for it, and it got appraised as is for 10k. DD
Only occassionally on that show though, I am recording all the pickers I can get. Tank Overhaul, Pickers and sometimes Hoarders, but that show makes me feel sad. DD
That show is pretty cool. My grandmother was an old time picker....used to drag us around to all kind of odd places.
I might have to check it out. My sister, the romance writer, also has an antique/collectible shop on the Strand, actually part of a shop, and she has a picker who works for her. She got us involved in the estate sales by insisting we go to all that looked interesting when she visits. As a result, she learned where to groovy neighborhoods are here and we learned that you can find all sorts of cool things that way, cheap. Art, vintage clothing, furniture, every possible thing imaginable, really. The difficulty we have is stopping ourselves from buying things we like. We're running out of room!
I saw most of that show-- very interesting... ranges of 1000 yards. "Pickers" is pretty interesting. Love that name "Antique Archeology." The History Channel is my Channel of Choice. The show I'm addicted to is "Pawn Stars." Check it out! http://www.history.com/content/pawn-stars
No hate, just straight up truth. Some people just can't handle the truth. Mikol which one did you DVR? I have only seen a couple, one with a Japanese Samari sword from WW2 and the other the Opi......oh, and one where they bought a carnival ride...lol. DD
You'd probably also like Pawn Stars. Which is pretty much the same concept, but instead people bring their antiques and valuables to a 24 hour pawn shop in Vegas. It airs before and after American Pickers.
Yeah it is ok but they aren't really going OUT into the barns and garages of rural America. To me that is what makes this show unique....it is kind of like a combination hoarders and pickers show. Some people are like "Sure, I will sell my junk"....others are like "Nah, I may need that"....and you go, WHAT? Neat stuff. DD
Like Pawn Stars. Don't like Pickers too much. The only shows I watch on History these days are Gangland, and Pawn Stars. Not too crazy about that guy that saws everything in half.
Saw the first episode. Loved it. But never had a chance to watch the other episodes... Pawn Stars is funny as hell...
It is a little different Pawn Stars is funny because of Chum Lee and how they treat each other. Pickers is about the people they buy the stuff from and the stories behind the items. DD
