Unfortunately POI suffers from the same problem as any other prime time show; 23 episodes per season is too long. Over the last three seasons, I have noticed the show winding around in many different directions, a clear indicator that there is no long term story line or predefined end for the show. For the most part, its been a really good show and i've enjoyed it.
I really liked the end of Season 3 and was excited about it coming back to see where they were going to go. Season 4 so far has been pretty ho-hum, which is boring.
I have recorded each episode, tried watching the first and second a few times .. It's just not very good. Where did the show from season 1 and 2 go? It's just not interesting anymore. I hope elementary doesn't follow suit, bc I'm really looking forward to the new season.
Spoiler You must have missed the end of last season. Root hacked "Samaritan's" servers before they were installed. It has a "block" when it tries to identify the group's faces. People are so impatient. Let's see where it goes...
I was late to this game So I am still catching up and still enjoying. I started Taraji's last season Rocket River
Spoiler No I saw that, that was a very built up scene. I'm just saying that its a little unrealistic (within the scope of the show of course), that they haven't gotten caught up with/by Samaritan yet.
I was late watching this week, the kids and money episode was lame. I don't think they need another continuing bad guy story line, and Marlo would not be the second in command to anybody.
I am still watching POI. But the last two seasons (counting this one) just are lacking a bit. The urgency and focus seem lost. Not a fan of the Root character at all. Hate her in fact. Not a big fan of Shaw either because her character marginalizes Reese. Though her character is better this season since they softened her up. Not a fan of the Samaratin angle. One mega computer is enough. I liked it better when it was just Reese & Finch solving crimes in the "procedural of the week" with just a small dab of an overarching storyline to keep the viewer on their toes. Right now, the larger mythology is dominating. And a side note, (and I know this is because it is broadcast TV), but how lame is it every week when people are shot, they are shot in the leg/knee. It looks stupid over and over again. Still watch the show, but it used to be "must see" for me. It isn't now. Now for me "The Blacklist" holds that position.
Just finished finally watching end of season 4. I had to skip the last 3 or 4 episodes before the penultimate episode of the season where it was obvious from the descriptions they were back to the main story. The episodes where they advance the main story I really enjoy. When they're stuck in the middle of the season with filler and the weekly formulaic "we must help someone" I get bored pretty quick. Kind of reminds me of Lost in season 3 when they lost focus because they were being forced to drag on the story longer than they wanted.
That seems to be the case with every network show that needs to go 23, 24 episodes per season. They could solve that by halving the number of episodes like cable shows do, but I doubt that's possible for economic reasons.
I think alot do this by cutting the seasons in half with a month break between or something Rocket River
Renewed for a 13-episode season. You guys get what you wanted (shortened season = better/more focused plot) but with this news, I'd be surprised if POI stuck around for another season.
Ya know, it's funny that you say this, because I am the EXACT OPPOSITE! I like the "help the person of the week" type shows. The procedural. That's how it started. Not as much a fan of the larger story arch of the dueling Machines. That larger story is fine if done in the background but when it is the main focus, it kind of takes away the charm of the original goal of the show. I just think it is very convoluted right now. Finch and Reese use to be the forefront and now they are marginalized by other team members, Root (who I can't stand) and Shaw (who will return next season).
The original intent of the show was to make The Machine the main character and everyone else secondary. The "saving people" is the background, allowing the story to flow, such as adding additional secondary cast. However the show has jumped the shark. Time to wrap it up and end it
Agreed. I was unsatisfied with the 'mob war' ending They did not use ASHUR well enough Root is interesting in small doses The whole ROOT LOVES SHAW thing is just eye rolling inducing at this point. Rocket River
I started watching POI on Netflix because everyone tells me that this is the best scifi show on TV right now. I think I'm 18 episodes deep and have only enjoyed 4 episodes. I'm toughing it out because people really love this show. The case of the week is killing me and they force you to watch because they give you 5 minutes of back story within the episodes. I understand this show gets more serialized in season 2. I can do it...
Yeah, if you like the "serialized" aspect it really moves that way as the series goes on. Personally, I like the "case of the week" better and loved season 1. The pilot was phenomenal. So, if you like the "back story" aspects, hang tight as that stuff becomes more of the focus starting with season 2.
I agree with you. I don't have a preference in general, but I thought POI did the weekly procedural really well while developing characters along the way. It was almost like a more realistic Batman (Finch = Alfred/Robin, Reese = Batman, Shaw/Fusco = Gordon, NYC = Gotham, etc) solving another crime each week. OTOH I felt the overall story arch got a bit convoluted and I didn't keep up that deep into the 2nd season. Since it's on Netflix I'm going jump back on. Strangely I thought Burn Notice was kind of cheesy, but I've been watching it in the background and the overarching story has got me hooked in the latter seasons.
