I am not sure how I feel about it. The show has been very solid and has not disappointed me on the long run, but I am not sure on the new direction its taking. Spoiler it seems as the Machine is taking an identity of itself and is becoming the main character over Reece and Finch. For a top secret project, it seems more and more people are finding out about it. I wonder how long the show can go before it jumps the shark
Yeah I agree, Spoiler The interaction between Root and the machine kind of makes the show seem desperate to have a villain. I still think the show is awesome, I just don't know how long they can keep up with some of this. I"m much more interested in seeing how Carter plans on taking down HR.
I absolutely HATE the "Root" character. Get rid of her ASAP. Just awful! I like the multiple sub plots and don't mind characters coming "in and out" of the show. But I am getting a little worried about having too many "regular" characters on the show at the same time which "marginalize" the Reese/Finch dynamic They basically ADDED Shaw/Root as regular characters to the Reese/Finch/Fusco/Cater core. Like I said above, I hate the Root character, and the Shaw character I am kind of 'meh' on. She would be better in smaller doses and not as a weekly character.
I couldn't agree more, Shaw seems like she was added in for some sort of sex appeal (which is ok), but Root is beyond annoying. And like you said with her being there it takes away from the plots most people actually care about; HR Battle, Reese/Finch, who's over the machine now, and Elias
I didn't see that coming... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ap5Sw3xsZhU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I am speechless about this episode. So many great moments and a great episode overall. Just don't know how they're going to move along now after the events in this episode.
I wouldn't call it the best episode, but it was a must see only because so much happened. I have mixed feelings too. IMO, much of the episode was predictable (thus boring and unimaginative).
This show is winning me over. I watched a couple of episodes last season and was "meh" but the last couple of episodes this season have reeled me in. I haven't watched enough to know what is going on with Root but I am for more Amy Acker.
POI is a serial-procedural show. Each episode usually drops a couple bits to the overall narrative to the show. Its not extremely dynamic like, for example, Homeland, however watching just a couple episodes midseason would make the show pretty boring.
The best episode of the series was called "Relevance" were they introduced Samantha Shaw (season 2, episode 16).
Mixed feelings with the last episode. But it was very powerful, gripping and done well. And kudos to the writers for having the balls to pull that off. I said it previously in this thread and I will say it again... NO MORE ROOT! Enough of her! Time to move on.
I applaud them for a bold stroke even though I liked the character very much. IMO, Root is temporary and won't last the entire 3rd season. The replacement for Carter is Shaw and the show will revert back to 4 primary characters.
I did not expect to see Carters end come so early in the season. She was easily #3 and a very solid character. Fusco is weak and boring and I like him less than Root. The whole HR was a regression in the story line and it was time to wrap it up. Im starting to believe Root is a perm. character. I think Finch is just now accepting that the Machine is fully thinking for itself and he is no longer the 'parent'. Hopefully this adds a completely new dynamic to the show with Finch/Reece teams all over the world.
If Root is just a part-time perm over the final 14 episodes of season 3, I'm OK with that. Or maybe she's a full-time regression in the story line that wraps up in a few weeks. Anything more than that and I expect to be disappointed. I'll keep an open mind though. Obviously some sort of new dynamic is beginning and hopefully it works.
I hope you are right about Root. Yeah, clearly Shaw is the Carter replacement. But I am looking forward to them softening her up a bit. That episode she did with kid helped. Because right now she just is too stiff and kind of competes with Reese's character. It is off putting and awkward. Carter was great in every way and will be missed. If you are going to go out, that type of episode is the way to go. A high mark. With Carter gone, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of Zoe. Her character has fantastic chemistry with Reese. (as opposed to Shaw).
Is anyone still watching this show? I just recently watched the 4th episode of the season titled "BrotherHood" and.... Spoiler Parts of the episode were annoyingly predictable, but for some reason the twist at the end really threw me for a loop. I wasn't expecting that at all. In general, I'm not terribly excited about where the show is heading. This "samaritan" issue, is no way solvable, and there's no way that they wouldn't have been found out already either...but all in all, it's still a pretty good show.
