If James doesn't sign, the Rockets had better get Marcus Banks. He's the only PG left on the market, and I don't think the Rockets can go into the season with a depth chart of Rafer and John Lucas III at PG.

Like the great Napoleon Dynamite's brother once said ...HHHHHHHHHHHHHHYES!

Thanks for the general cryptic "no worries" vote of confidence Doc...

Frankly, I don't blame James - he was traded to the NBA version of Siberia, where your salary doesn't go as far with the exchange rate and the taxes. It was a bonehead trade for the Rockets, anyway.

I get a big chuckle out of posters using the adjective "big" with contract. It's a freakin' MLE for crying out loud. In case you're not aware, it's defined as the average players' salary. There's nothing "big" about. It pays a whopping $16.2M for 3 years. And that's all 26 over the cap teams can offer FA's.

The Rockets (who just saved $2M in present value money because Battier is that much cheaper than Stro + Gay) are reluctant to pay the "big" $6.2M for the 4th year?

One thing is absolutely certain in the way I shape my opinions. If the Mavs sign James for 4 years because the Rockets wouldn't give him a 4th for the $6.2M...they went on the cheap and will pay for it.

EDIT: Juwan Howard will be off of the books the 4th year of James' contract. Battier will have 1 year remaining after James' 4th...for 7.4M. And if Gay is any kind of player, they'll be re-signing Battier for a whole lot less. Gawd, I hope they don't go cheap.

Doc Rocket might be saying something else. Maybe it's a cryptic message. I hope he is right and there is something good that's going to happen.

Using the trade exemption on Marcus Banks and then splitting the MLE on Flip Murray and Melvin Ely would be awesome. It would salvage this offseason and the rockets could let MJ go wherever. They depth that these signings would bring to the rockets would be something houston hasn't had in a long time. Having said all this i don't see it happening. The only way is if they rockets convince them to give up a little bit of money they could get somewhere else for a chance and truely contending for a ring next year.

He's upset with the rocket's offer. I hope he signs here, but I understand that he owes this team nothing. We had him for about 30 games and traded him for what we felt was a better fit. He should go wherever he wants, but if he goes to the mavs for a three-year MLE deal I'll be pretty pissed.

Exactly, I totally agree here. Its never good to put all of your time and effort into one thing with no backup.

    No worries mean no worries.

Meanings James will sign or if he doesn't we got the basses covered with other options. Either way no worries... that's a relief... Thanks Doc

After what happened to Anderson and Swift last year, not to mention the question mark on TMac's health, I don't think any FA will take a paycut so as to play in Rockets.

Just because a person tells me they want me, or they wanna do something bad for me, one thing I can remember is I did get traded from here. You know, I didn’t have to leave Houston in the first place and I didn’t give Houston a reason in the first place to trade me, but I understand business is never personal. I won’t hold that against nobody, but you can’t tell me how much you really love me.

    On Ch 2 Houston.

    Mike James is ticked.

    That doen't sound too good.

    Are you sleeping until Wednesday?

BTW- I'd like to see Flip here, regardless of MJ's decision. But if MJ and Flip came the TC speakers could blare a new remix of...

Mike James. Who? "Flip, Flip, Flip." Game Over.

    It's late.

i understand james being a bit bitter about being traded but hopefully he can see that he made himself in toronto. that is what he is being courted for.

also gater's right, mike james is a flat out steal at the mle. i wouldn't hesitate in a second to give that to him for the full five years and considering how long this has played out i'm shocked the rockets haven't done it yet. maybe they're still working on trying to use the TE.

thirdly, i'm really hoping doc rocket has been informed of some good news. some of you guys are crazy who don't want james. he would be HUGE as a third scorer.
