Anyone else watching this? I ran out of new shows to watch, and after some investigation decided to give this one a shot. Glad I did. It's not a flawless show like a Breaking Bad, but for pure entertainment it delivers. Always keeps you guessing and on your heels. It's hard to take your eyes off of the actress who plays the assassin, and not for the obvious reasons. Just about as unique and interesting of a "bad guy" as I've ever seen. Anyway, I highly recommend it!
Second season started as of Sunday. Just watched the first season on Hulu a week or so ago. Didn't really expect much, just had some down time to burn, but Villanelle is easily my favorite character on TV now. Genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
My brother just rep'd this. Plan to start tonight. Thx for review. Spy thriller from BBC. Desk-jocky,,, meet psycho assassin ?
I've been seeing promos for this on AMC, I know it's a few seasons in but is it worthwhile? Might need a new show to pick up....
Premise is off the wall, not believable... but it makes up for it in the acting, writing. Villanelle is one of the best characters of this decade, as was reflected in the recent RINGER tournament (best all-time characters) where she was a #1 seed. And both lead actresses' have won the Emmy award for their roles in this show, with supporting actress Fiona Shaw possibly the best of all of them. Interesting tidbit... star (and writer) of fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) wrote the entire first season.
i'm liking it so far. also, simply because of dark humor. they aren't trying to make us believe an assassin is like this. curious if the book that it's based upon has humor, or if it's a regular, intense spy-thriller. also, Barry is described as "dark humor," too. Are his jobs as unbelievably executed? Tried to watch the 1st episode, but that HBO Go deal seems swamped ... wouldn't load. So, I went with Killing Eve, instead.
Agree that it's not believable, but it's not the worst in that scale either. And in the universe it created, Villanelle is very well cast. 8.1/10 My cop action/dark humor/spy show tastes for reference: Happy! - 9.8 Jack Ryan Season 1 - 9.7 Narcos - 8.7 Bodyguard (UK) - 8.6
It's all about crazy Villanelle. If you expect an Agetha Christie plot or a M Knight Shamalan twist, you'll be disapointed. It's pretty much by-the-numbers outside of Villanelle's permanent and total lack of impulse control. If you dont enjoy the character, it really doesnt have that much to offer.
As someone who has become very fickle when it comes to stupidity or too much formulaic writing in action dramas, The Bodyguard passes the test.
Yeah I am very fickle that way as well, I will check it out. Have you seen The Fall and what did you think about it?
I think it's a very entertaining show and the acting is top notch but its not The Wire or Breaking Bad and have never seen it described that way. What shows do you think is a masterpiece?
