i think it is interesting that he kind of faded. like i said earlier, i basically associate him with "living color" and some other things that may or may not be fair, maybe its just that time period in my life. but I strongly associate him with the late eighties, early nineties, and then those things kind of just faded out. like a whole genere, I really don't know how to explain. I associate arsenio heavily with milli vinilli. pm dawn, swoly mentioned C&c Music factory, clothing places in the mall like Oak Tree, hammer pants, etc.

maybe that's not fair to arsenio, maybe he didn't get a chance once his ratings decreased a bit and he didn't get a chance to reinvent himself and move to the next era of entertainment.

wow, thanks for that video, never saw that. radiohead is the greatest band on earth that still makes vital records. look at that intensity and look at the potential and then listen to in rainbows.

He totally captured the younger demographic and for the first time gave them a reason to watch late night. Arsenio was a staple on my TV, just as much as coming home and watching after-school cartoons, sitcom re-runs, etc.

Arsenio Hall Show RETURNS. First show is supposed to be tonight

Anyone going to watch? Any expectations of this to be successful?

I wanted to make a NEW thread. But figured if this thread was made weeks ago there'd still be talk of the OLD TIMES anyway.

For all the critique that Jimmy Fallon and partly Jimmy Kimmel have gotten through the years, it just shows how they have more versatile shows from the since the Arsenio days. AND they manage to capture a young enough audience (Though its still mostly older people who watch late night TV)

What can Arsenio do that is different and unique that whats out there? Other than saying "I'm Arsenio, 'member me?"

I think talk show reboots generally don't work as well, sounds better in our heads than in reality. (Example, "new" Ricki Lake Show) But it'll be interesting to see if he brings any of the "party" back.

The guy who he competed with retired, the two guys who moved in were better and are still going strong. He reminds me of a late night Jenny Jones in that he was not very much in control or command of his show, as Frank Zappa proved. He also drastically narrowed himself with a guest like Farrakhan, and I can't remember at all if or how he fared with country or other older middle-America type talent.

This guy is probably a good enough conversationalist and funny enough to do well on Good Day Live or Headline News but is completely out of any possibly relevant loop. He probably should have tried to get on Extra and Access when he still had booking contacts and those shows were just being created to compete with ET. I believe he made a decent little chunk of change being nationally syndicated every night with A-list(?) guests, and I've never heard about any money trouble; so this may just be for fun.

Not funny, horrible interviewer, Howard Stern made a fool of him on his own show. Will not watch, ever. Just full of cheese.

I could never stand Hall as a host. He and Leno are about equally awful. However, he did have some incredible musical guests. I hope whoever was responsible for booking the musical talent went on to a successful career.

I liked his show, but I will venture to guess that the new version will not be as good as Letterman or Leno.

R.I.P. all these other shows by comedians
    Link?

Bill Maher doesn't happen unless Arsenio cracks the door open first. He simply doesn't get the recognition he deserves for mixing politics and humor on late night TV. As far as talent, he's no Carson, but who is?
