Finally caught the first two episodes. Man, any time there was a chase scene it was just bad. Whether it was little Leia or the ridiculous parkour. I get that it is hard to find kid actors that little who can act, but if you recognize you aren't going to be able to accomplish that, at least get one that is quick and athletic so the chase scenes seem at least SORT of plausible. When she runs past Obi Wan and he sort of halfway lunges for her almost drunkenly, I felt like I was watching a Looney Tunes episode. She might as well have run between his legs and started making honking noises or something. I know it is a relatively small thing but it is such a blatant miss of the details that it really doesn't bode well for the rest of the show. Also not a huge fan of any of the other actors except McGregor. I thought Hayden Christiansen was the wrong choice way back when in the prequels. He's a better actor than I gave him credit for then, but he's still not intimidating, not on his best day. So I'm not expecting much from Vader this season either. Is the Asian actor that plays one of the inquisitors the same guy that was with the blind dude in Rogue One? The guy with the huge gatling laser gun? Edit: Forgot to add one positive. Kumail Nanjiani was just gold in every second of his screen time. He stole every scene. THAT dude needs to have his own spin-off series. I hope they aren't done with his character.
I also thought that girl falling off the cliff was from a cartoon as well. Anyone remember that Animaniacs bit where the dog chases after a stupid baby girl through one death trap after another? That Asian dudes helmet is ridiculous. Like a cybernetic Toad from Mario Bros. ...Or maybe it's a futuristic strawhat rice cooker powered by the Darkside Verdict still out on subtle themes.
Ayooo! Darth Vader is petty with a CAPITAL P. This mf been thinking about this moment for 10 years and you can tell. I won’t say too much. I didn’t know if I should laugh or be shook. No chill. None.
Yeah, episode 3 was much better, as expected. S**t is just on a different level when Vader is involved.
Great episode, but im still not connecting these legacy characters with this music. About Reva, she was better and : Spoiler if she's actually overacting to sell being a villain/dark side when she's actually a jedi/light side user with undercover plans to kill Vader, she will be redeemed imo-obviously she will have to meet her demise at Vaders force choke but redeemed
Honestly, you'd have to really try to **** up a show with Darth Vader in it in order for it to be bad. Especially with some of the details I don't want to spoil. That said, MacGregor's acting after watching Temura Morrison grunt through Boba Fett is a serious upgrade.
No one complaining about the last bit? Spoiler Vader hoovers up the fire with force power. Blaster reignites fire for the save. Vader enters Biden-like fugue state and starts shaking Stormtroopers hands and walks home. Wtf 90 yr old James Earl Jones... You had him
I don't like this ob1 is a bum routine. Obvious 5+ streaming episode burn where he gets his groove back. He should've been like an old Chinese master hermit meditating atop a mountain with a very particular set of skills. At this point ob1 should sport a dad bod while downing six packs like PTSD Thor
Her dad was building Droids, racing, and flying spaceships at age 9 in the Phantom Menace. Leia couldn't even fix her little toy.
Watched ep 3 last night. I'll spoiler my thoughts: Spoiler The Good: Darth Vader - as others have mentioned, it's hard to mess this up. But we did get him choking out several people and breaking some kid's neck, so that was fun and terrifying. Lightsaber duel - it was kind of rough from a direction standpoint, but I enjoyed seeing just how overmatched Obi Wan was in the this brief duel. I know he is extremely rusty with the force, but Vader looked like he was barely trying and still winning handily. The ambiance of the scene when the duel happens is really dark and creepy too. Works great with the glows of the different colors on the light sabers. We see a stormtrooper cut in half by a laser fence. CUT IN HALF. That was AWESOME and worth the price of admission by itself. The Bad: As someone else mentioned, the crystals on fire-Obiwan burning sequence was weird. Vader put the fire out and then it re-ignites and suddenly no one knows what to do? I'm hoping in that moment Vader just decided to let them go because he wants Obi Wan to suffer more. That's the only thing that sort of makes sense. Similar to this, there was a weird moment after Obi Wan stops the storm troopers at the laser fence when he just can't figure out how to turn that laser fence off and shoots the control box to turn it off. But with like 3 steps he could have gone around it on either side. It was a small thing, but it made him look stupid. Also in that scene, did Obiwan seriously use that Freck guy as a shield? What Jedi would EVER use someone as a (in)human shield?! That felt bizarre. I felt like McGregor's acting in this series was fine, but my wife was in a connecting room and heard the episode but didn't see (she was doing stuff on her phone). After she asked me "Who's the robot that was talking to the little girl for most of the episode?" Ouch, Ewan. The Ugly: Leia child actress was a little better in this episode, but they STILL felt the need to have a brief cut showing her running down that tunnel, reminding us YET AGAIN that she has all the speed and evasiveness of my Roomba vacuum. Also a couple times when Obi Wan runs from Vader look more like he spontaneously decided to go for a jog in the ol' rubble pile one evening. Third sister actress still comes off really wooden and silly. I do think it will be revealed that she is playing the Empire's side and wants to try and kill Vader, or something like that. That would help explain some of it. But still, there's been a LOT of miscasting in this show so far.
I blame the Mandalorian for setting a very high bar for every Disney Star Wars series that came after it.
